About the Role:
As a Party Chief, you will lead daily field operations, oversee data collection, and ensure survey work is performed accurately, efficiently, and safely. You'll work closely with project managers, engineers, and office staff to support projects including boundary surveys, topographic surveys, construction layout, and municipal infrastructure work.
This role is ideal for someone with 3+ years of surveying experience who is confident in the field, capable of working independently, and ready to take responsibility for crew performance, data quality, and project execution.
Responsibilities
Field Operations & Survey Execution
• Lead and manage survey crews in the field on a variety of projects including boundary, topographic, construction stakeout, and right-of-way surveys
• Plan daily field activities, coordinate logistics, and ensure efficient execution of assigned work
• Perform property and right-of-way reconnaissance and verify existing conditions
• Operate and maintain survey equipment including total stations, GPS/GNSS, and data collectors
Data Collection & Quality Control
• Ensure accurate and complete field data collection and documentation
• Review field data for accuracy, completeness, and consistency before submission
• Coordinate with office staff to support data processing, mapping, and final deliverables
• Troubleshoot field issues and adjust methods as needed to maintain quality and efficiency
Project Coordination
• Work closely with project managers and engineers to understand project scope, schedule, and requirements
• Support construction layout and coordination with contractors and field personnel
• Participate in project meetings as needed and communicate field progress, challenges, and updates
Leadership & Team Development
• Provide direction, training, and mentorship to instrument operators and junior field staff
• Promote a team-oriented environment focused on safety, quality, and productivity
• Ensure all work is performed in accordance with company standards, project requirements, and safety protocols
Qualifications
Qualifications
• 3+ years of land surveying experience, with demonstrated field leadership
• Strong working knowledge of survey field procedures, equipment, and data collection methods
• Experience with boundary, topographic, construction, and/or municipal surveying projects
• Ability to work independently, manage field crews, and make sound decisions in the field
• Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with field teams, office staff, and clients
• Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
• Certified Survey Technician (CST) or NICET Surveying Technician Certification preferred (or ability to obtain)
• OSHA HAZWHOPER and Construction Site Safety Certifications
• Certified Survey Technician Level 2 or 3 (Field or Office option)
• Familiarity with municipal and infrastructure projects
