Job description

  • Defines, designs and develops system requirements, assesses architecture and current hardware limitations, defines and designs complex system specifications, input/output processes and working parameters for hardware/software compatibility.
  • Coordinate design of subsystems and integration of total system, analyzes and resolves difficult and complicated program support deficiencies.
  • Conducts independent technical investigations in systems design, coordinate and consolidate design efforts on major projects.
  • Deliver system engineering services in accordance with DFAS standard methods and procedures, and establishing and managing the DFAS Enterprise Information Infrastructure architecture and engineering environment
  • Provide specialized assistance in dealing with both software and hardware problems, demonstrate understanding on the functionality of the systems, as well as installation/deployment, hardware, and routine maintenance functions
  • Provide consulting guidance and expert information on various issues associated with Oracle software version, IAVA and patch updates, download and test new software versions and patches.
  • Monitor Oracle site and DISA for new patches, IAVAs or versions of software. For new Oracle software, download, review, test and make recommendation on what situations it would be appropriate to use it in.
  • Provide tier 3 technical guidance to support problem resolution of installation and configuration errors, provide migration support for mission critical applications in development and production environments.
  • Draft reports and documentation associated with review and analysis of software, author installation and operational documents for all new and updated Oracle solutions designed by the engineer, ensure all documents follow established QA and testing procedures
  • Support the installation and management of Oracle SuperCluster and other Oracle Engineered Systems. Must be familiar and have detailed knowledge of the Oracle SuperCluster architecture.
  • Provide professional guidance and consulting advice to DBA team on how to build their applications in database environment.
  • Design scripts and procedures to replicate Storage Area Network (SAN) on the Primary site from the secondary site daily whether at DFAS or DISA hosted environments. Write script file to allow replication to run (i.e. configure jobs) and monitor to ensure they were completed.
  • Provide professional guidance, presentation, training and consulting advice to audiences (to include Senior Level) on any Oracle related topic.
  • Prepare and deliver presentation and advice follows system engineering best practices.

Minimum Requirements
  • Shall have understanding of Oracle solutions on an Oracle SuperCluster and Solaris UNIX, LINUX environments.
  • Provide guidance to install and manage Oracle Software, manage System and Security Software patches and upgrades
  • Create and manage database schemas, manage database storage, assist with database administration, performance tuning of databases
  • Oversee optimization and performance, provide UNIX, LINUX and SQL scripts and integrity of these scripts

Required Skillsets:
  • PL/SQL, SQL*Plus, SQL tuning, UNIX and Linux Operating Systems, Oracle RAC (Real Application Clusters)
  • Cloud Computing, Shell scripting (Bash and Korn) STIGS, VMWare knowledge
  • Communication Skills (between federal agencies, vendors, technical teams and management)
