This includes ensuring the company has internet access at all times, testing each new connection when you add hardware, and generally helping to maintain the network. This is a junior position, so you work under the direct supervision of a senior network engineer. Despite not having leadership responsibilities, you may be asked to supervise a project from inception to completion.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior network engineer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Network Engineer, you need a solid understanding of networking fundamentals, IP addressing, and troubleshooting, often supported by a degree in computer science or a related field. Familiarity with networking hardware, Cisco or CompTIA Network+ certifications, and experience using network monitoring tools are typically required. These competencies are critical for maintaining reliable network operations and supporting the technical needs of organizations.

What are some common challenges a junior network engineer may face in their first year, and how can they overcome them?
