Junior Mid Software Developer information

What is a junior mid software developer?

A Junior Mid Software Developer is an early-career professional responsible for designing, coding, testing, and maintaining software applications under the guidance of senior developers. This role typically requires some prior experience or education in programming and software development, bridging the gap between entry-level (junior) and more experienced (mid-level) positions. Junior Mid Software Developers work collaboratively within a team, contribute to project tasks, and continuously learn new technologies and best practices to advance their skills. They may be involved in debugging, documentation, and implementing new features based on project requirements.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior mid software developer?

To thrive as a Junior/Mid Software Developer, you need proficiency in programming languages (such as JavaScript, Python, or Java), understanding of software development principles, and usually a relevant degree or coding bootcamp experience. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, basic database management, and common frameworks or development environments is typically expected. Strong problem-solving skills, teamwork, and effective communication help you collaborate with colleagues and adapt to changing project requirements. These skills and qualities are essential for writing reliable code, maintaining project momentum, and contributing positively to development teams.

How does a junior mid software developer typically collaborate with senior developers and other team members?

As a Junior Mid Software Developer, you will often work closely with senior developers, participating in code reviews, pair programming sessions, and regular team stand-ups. You’ll have opportunities to ask questions, receive feedback on your code, and contribute to team discussions about technical solutions. Collaboration also extends to cross-functional teams, such as QA testers, UX/UI designers, and product managers, ensuring that software solutions meet both technical and business requirements. This supportive environment helps you build your skills and gradually take on more complex responsibilities.

Job description

MedscapeLIVE!, a Medscape Company, delivers MD and HCP audiences across all therapeutic areas. Access MDs and HCPs through MedscapeLIVE! Events.

All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, or veteran status.

MedscapeLIVE! is seeking a highly autonomous Lead Software Developer to serve as a technical anchor and driver of innovation for our registration portals and promotional live events. In this role, you will drive complex feature enhancements, and act as the primary point of contact for critical system challenges.

As a strategic lead, you will be responsible for:

  • Serve as the primary technical lead for stateside and offshore development teams proactively guiding projects of our proprietary web applications, global platforms, and educational infrastructures.

  • Enforce code integrity, conduct rigorous code reviews, and mentor junior developers to elevate the entire team's velocity.

  • Move beyond "ticket-taking" to proactively identify system vulnerabilities, automate repetitive workflows, and build advanced technical solutions (e.g., AIs, complex API integrations, etc.) before they impact production.

  • Establish the standards for application responsiveness and cross-platform compatibility (Windows, iOS, Chrome, Safari, etc.). Lead the development team in testing enhancements, ensuring existing functionality remains and deployments result in zero downtime.

  • Act as the escalation point for platform-breaking bugs to rapidly identify, isolate, and patch critical issues affecting live global events.

  • Maintain comprehensive, high-level technical documentation, diagrams, and SOPs applicable to various software frameworks to ensure institutional knowledge is preserved and accessible.

  • Manage large-scale projects and long-term strategic planning for development infrastructure, completing projects within production SLAs and tight deadlines.

Skills/Requirements:

  • Expert-level proficiency in front-end and full-stack technologies, including deep knowledge of HTML5, CSS3, modern JavaScript, XML, and associated libraries/frameworks.

  • Proven experience architecting and managing third-party API connections, custom registration logics, and platform integrations (expertise with STOVA, Sitecore, or similar event management software and Webflow is highly preferred).

  • Experience managing offshore resources, workflows, and conducting rigorous code reviews to maintain deployment standards. Demonstrated history of leading development cycles and driving product roadmaps.

  • Must possess exceptional analytical skills with a proven ability to thrive under pressure and untangle complex legacy code.

  • Aversion to "repetitive production work" actively seeks to automate routine tasks, implement continuous improvement, and streamline deployment pipelines.

  • 5+ years' experience in web development with a proven track record in leadership and CMS architecture. Experience working with medical experts and medical content (MLR submissions a plus) is advantageous.

  • Hyper-focus on data integrity, UX/UI consistency, and code execution.

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear business impacts for executive leadership and bridge communication between technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • Familiarity with modern version control, ticketing systems (e.g., YouTrack), and advanced data management.

Compensation: $105,000 - $120,000

Bonus Eligible: This position is also eligible for a discretionary company bonus, based upon business results.
