Job description

PURVIS Systems is a technology solutions partner that develops, implements and maintains mission-critical solutions for federal and local government agencies.

PURVIS Systems has an immediate opening for a Systems Administrator with a strong background in Linux system administration and working knowledge of network engineering.  The ideal candidate is a technically skilled and dependable Systems Administrator with experience designing, integrating, configuring, maintaining and troubleshooting Linux-based systems and supporting network infrastructure in secure, mission-focused environments.
 
The individual should have hands-on experience as a Linux Systems Administrator with a strong understanding of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), virtualization, TCP/IP networking, system security, troubleshooting and system integration.  
The day to day responsibilities of a this role will include:
  • Design, configure, integrate, maintain, and troubleshoot Linux-based computing environments.
  • Administer and maintain Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) systems, including installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, performance optimization, and lifecycle management.
  • Apply Linux System Administrator experience to troubleshoot operating system, hardware, software, storage, application, and network-related issues.
  • Configure and troubleshoot Linux networking, including network interfaces, routing tables, DNS, DHCP, firewall rules, and TCP/IP connectivity.
  • Support the configuration and troubleshooting of network infrastructure, including managed switches, VLANs, trunking, routing, and network segmentation.
  • Assist with troubleshooting network connectivity and performance issues using common Linux and network diagnostic tools.
  • Support integration of Linux servers and workstations with existing LAN and enterprise network infrastructure.
  • Develop, test, document, and implement system configurations and engineering solutions supporting mission-critical systems.
  • Support system architecture, integration, testing, deployment, sustainment, and technical refresh activities.
  • Support virtualized environments using Virtual box,  or similar enterprise virtualization technologies.
  • Perform system and network patching, vulnerability remediation, and security hardening in accordance with applicable Information Assurance requirements and DISA STIGs.
  • Support cybersecurity and Information Assurance activities, including vulnerability assessments, remediation, IAVAs, IAVBs, technical advisories, and security compliance.
  • Analyze system and network performance, reliability, and availability and recommend engineering improvements where appropriate.
  • Develop and maintain system and network documentation, including system configurations, network diagrams, engineering procedures, installation procedures, and troubleshooting guides.
  • Support system backups, recovery procedures, software deployment, configuration management, and system installation activities.
  • Work with systems, network, and cybersecurity teams to investigate and resolve complex technical problems from initial diagnosis through final resolution.
  • Provide technical support during system integration, testing, installation, and deployment activities.
  • Travel requirement for this position is 10%.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Systems Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Cybersecurity, or a related technical field required.
  • Professional experience working as a Linux System Administrator, Systems Engineer, or in a comparable Linux-focused technical role.
  • 2 – 3 years of relevant systems administration, systems engineering, integration, networking, or related technical experience preferred.
  • Strong hands-on experience administering Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) or comparable enterprise Linux distributions.
  • Experience with Linux installation, configuration, patching, troubleshooting, system services, networking, storage, permissions, and security.
  • Working knowledge of network engineering concepts including TCP/IP, IPv4, subnetting, DNS, DHCP, VLANs, switching, routing, network segmentation, and firewalls.
  • Experience configuring or troubleshooting managed Ethernet switches and VLAN-based network environments preferred.
  • Ability to troubleshoot connectivity issues across the OSI model, including physical, data-link, network, and application-layer issues.
  • Familiarity with network diagnostic tools and utilities such as ping, traceroute, tcpdump, Wireshark, netstat/ss, and similar tools.
  • Experience with virtualization technologies such as Virtual Box and VMM preferred.
  • Experience with scripting or automation using Bash, Python, Ansible, or similar technologies preferred.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity practices, vulnerability remediation, DISA STIG implementation, system hardening, and Information Assurance requirements.
  • Experience supporting systems and networks within DoD, federal government, or other regulated environments preferred.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification or ability to meet applicable DoD Cybersecurity Workforce/IAT requirements.
  • RHCSA, RHCE, CCNA, Network+, or equivalent Linux/network certification preferred but not required.
  • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, documentation, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with systems, networking, cybersecurity, and software engineering teams.
This position requires the candidate to have/obtain a government security clearance to the level of SECRET.
