Job description

We're seeking someone to join our team as a Java Developer to deliver foundational technology solutions that power Morgan Stanley's industry-leading Foreign Exchange (FX) electronic trading (eTrading) platform and support the continued evolution of a high-performance global trading business.

In the Technology division, we leverage innovation to build the connections and capabilities that power our Firm, enabling our clients and colleagues to redefine markets and shape the future of our communities. This is a Lead Software Engineering position at Director level, which is part of the job family responsible for developing and maintaining software solutions that support business needs.

What you'll do in the role:

  • Design and develop microservices supporting pricing, trade capture, and control applications, including regulatory-focused functionality.
  • Lead the architecture, development, and enhancement of distributed Java-based platforms and services.
  • Drive technical strategy and influence engineering direction across server-side application development initiatives.
  • Promote software engineering best practices, including testing, code quality, automation, and development tooling.
  • Adopt and leverage AI-enabled tools within the Firm to improve productivity, reduce technical debt, and enhance delivery throughput.
  • Contribute actively to architecture reviews, technical design discussions, and code reviews.
  • Lead and support all phases of the software development lifecycle, including analysis, design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Partner with business and technology stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable technical solutions.
  • Support major production events, provide timely issue resolution, and drive long-term improvements based on operational feedback.

What you'll bring to the role:

  • 6+ years of experience in Java and proficiency with distributed server-side application development.
  • Experience in Spring, web services, RESTful APIs, relational databases, and middleware technologies.
  • Experience in designing and delivering scalable microservices and enterprise-grade software solutions.
  • Demonstrable ability to meet deadlines and deliver high-quality results in a fast-paced environment.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate across business and technology teams.
  • Experience working or a desire to work in the financial industry and knowledge of FX products and related business processes are a plus.

All our positions are located in Montreal, Quebec. We offer a hybrid work environment, combining remote work and attendance in the office.

Knowledge of French and English is required.
