Job Description:

We're seeking a Java Engineer to join our Market Risk Technology team. In this role, you will develop and enhance the Market Risk Platform.

This is a hands-on Software Engineering role. The successful candidate will spend a significant portion of their time designing, building, and optimizing Java-based systems while also providing technical expertise within the squad.

The Market Risk Technology Team develops software to measure and monitor Market Risk and Capital for global portfolios. The team is responsible for designing and implementing technology solutions that calculate market risk exposure. The systems support large-scale simulations and analytics that estimate potential losses across multiple time horizons. The team works closely with Risk Managers, Market Risk Analytics teams, senior management, and regulatory stakeholders globally. The Market Risk Technology team continually evolves its suite of risk management tools, frameworks, and processes while building new solutions to meet an ever-changing business and regulatory landscape.


What You'll Do
  • Hands-on core Java development with responsibilities for the design, implementation, and support of key components of the Market Risk platform.
  • Implement scalable, high-performance computing solutions for market risk calculations and analytics capabilities.
  • Leverage AI tools to support agentic and analytical workflows while maintaining rigorous standards for solution quality, accuracy, and correctness.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams and global counterparts to deliver high-quality solutions.
  • Work in an Agile development environment, ensuring timely and efficient product delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior developers within the squad.

What You'll Bring
  • Strong expertise in Core Java development, with a proven track record of building production-grade backend systems.
  • Experience designing and building large-scale distributed systems.
  • Solid understanding of data structures, algorithms, and software design patterns.
  • Strong working knowledge of Linux/Unix environments and scripting.
  • Experience with relational and/or document-oriented databases.
  • Ability to translate business and analytical requirements into efficient technical solutions. Deep Market Risk domain expertise is not required upfront and can be developed on the job through close partnership with Risk and Analytics teams.
  • Ability to guide junior staff, influence technical direction, and manage multiple initiatives in parallel.
  • Typically 5+ years of relevant experience building large-scale, production-grade systems, with demonstrated expertise in Java-based backend development and distributed system design.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Soft Skills & Responsibilities:
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical thinking skills.
  • Self-starter with the ability to take initiative and drive projects independently.
  • Ability to align technology solutions with business goals and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Agentic AI development tools such as GitHub Copilot and Claude Code.
  • Experience using Python and Unix in production environments.
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as Azure, AWS, GCP, or other major cloud providers.
  • Exposure to big data technologies such as Apache Spark and Snowflake.
  • Experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools such as Terraform and CloudFormation.
  • Knowledge of containerized deployments and cloud-native architectures.
  • Familiarity with Agile software development methodologies and DevOps best practices.
  • Background in financial services, particularly within Market Risk or FinTech.

The base compensation range for this role in the posted location is: 75,000 to 90,000
