Job Description

Work Arrangement:

Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Warren, MI, or Austin, TX three times per week.

The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Software Engineer to design, build, and evolve modern, cloud-native enterprise applications that power critical customer and dealer experiences. In this role, you will architect and implement scalable microservices and secure APIs using Java, Spring Boot, and Microsoft Azure, partnering closely with product managers, architects, and cross-functional teams.
You will play a key role in shaping technical direction, improving engineering practices, and delivering high-quality solutions in a fast-paced Agile environment. This role is highly hands-on while also providing technical leadership, mentoring team members, and championing best practices in a microservices-based, cloud-native ecosystem.
What You'll Do

  • Design, develop, and maintain microservices and RESTful APIs using Java and Spring Boot running on Azure.
  • Build secure, scalable, and resilient services leveraging Azure services (for example: AKS, Azure SQL, Cosmos DB, Service Bus, Key Vault, App Gateway).
  • Collaborate with architects and product teams to translate business requirements into technical designs and implementation plans.
  • Own services end-to-end: design, development, testing, deployment, observability, support, and continuous improvement.
  • Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines, automation, and DevOps practices to improve deployment speed and reliability.
  • Design and tune data models and integrations with relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, Redis, Cassandra, etc.).
  • Apply cloud-native and distributed systems patterns (circuit breakers, retries, caching, event-driven design) to ensure scalability and reliability.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools (for example: GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codeium) to accelerate delivery and elevate code quality.
  • Participate in code reviews, technical design discussions, and architecture forums; drive high engineering standards across the team.
  • Mentor developers, pair program, and provide technical guidance to help grow the team's capabilities.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of our engineering practices, tooling, and platform capabilities.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • 7+ years of professional software development experience building production-grade applications.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related technical field or equivalent, demonstrable professional software engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Java and Spring Boot, including microservices-based architectures.
  • Proven experience designing, building, and consuming RESTful APIs.
  • Practical experience with Microsoft Azure, preferably including container-based workloads.
  • Experience with Kubernetes (AKS) for container orchestration, deployment, and scaling.
  • Working knowledge of both relational and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, Oracle, MySQL, Redis, or Cassandra.
  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and Git-based workflows (for example: GitHub, Azure DevOps).
  • Solid understanding of cloud-native architectures, distributed systems, resiliency, and scalability patterns.
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum development environments.
  • Hands-on experience using AI-assisted development tools (GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Codeium, etc.) to improve developer productivity and code quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor engineers, lead design sessions, and influence architecture and engineering decisions.

What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications)
  • Experience designing and operating large-scale, high-availability systems in a global enterprise environment.
  • Deep expertise with additional Azure services (for example: Event Hubs, Service Bus, Functions, API Management, Application Insights, Azure Monitor).
  • Strong experience with event-driven architectures, messaging, and streaming platforms (Kafka, Event Hubs, or similar).
  • Hands-on experience with observability tooling (logging, metrics, tracing) and building SLO/SLA-oriented services.
  • Practical experience with security best practices (OAuth2/OIDC, JWT, mTLS, secrets management, zero-trust patterns).
  • Background in front-end or full-stack development (React, Angular, or similar) working with modern design systems.
  • Experience modernizing legacy/monolithic applications to microservices and cloud-native architectures.
  • Demonstrated ability to:
    • Inspire, coach, and elevate other engineers through mentoring and pairing.
    • Foster a culture of collaboration, safety, and continuous learning.
    • Provide clear technical perspective and simplify complex problems for non-technical stakeholders.
    • Champion change and drive adoption of new tools, patterns, and engineering practices.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a bias toward action and ownership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence across teams and levels.
