Job Role: Infrastructure Engineer
Location: East Highland Park, VA
Duration: Long Term Project
No C2C only W2
Note: Local candidates preferred, or must be willing to relocate to Richmond, VA metro area. Will be required to come on-site 1-2 days a week after initial training and knowledge transfer.
Job Summary:
Client is seeking an experienced Senior Infrastructure Engineer to support and enhance a hybrid infrastructure environment.
Manage and optimize Windows Server environments across on-premises and cloud platforms.
Provide hands-on expertise in upgrades, migrations, patching, security, automation, vulnerability remediation, monitoring, backup/DR, and production application support.
Support mission-critical enterprise applications involving Java, .NET, Oracle, SQL, Microsoft Dynamics, and warehouse technologies.
Apply strong networking expertise, including the OSI model and network protocols, to troubleshoot infrastructure and application connectivity issues.
Collaborate with Infrastructure & Operations, application teams, security teams, and IT leadership to deliver reliable and secure infrastructure solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Infrastructure Operations & Administration:
Administer, maintain, and optimize Windows Server environments across on-premises and cloud infrastructure.
Perform OS upgrades, patch installation, testing, and system updates.
Develop and utilize PowerShell scripts and automation tools for centralized and repetitive infrastructure tasks.
Lead and execute server migrations and transition workloads from on-premises environments to cloud platforms.
Perform infrastructure upgrades, remediation, troubleshooting, and optimization for mission-critical systems.
Security & Compliance:
Implement and maintain server security configurations, including endpoint protection, access controls, and system hardening.
Conduct vulnerability remediation for servers and applications.
Work with security tools and processes to maintain consistent infrastructure protection and monitoring.
Support organizational security and compliance requirements.
Patching, Monitoring & Automation:
Manage enterprise patching cycles using SCCM or similar patch-management platforms.
Automate patch deployment, testing, and reporting processes.
Monitor infrastructure performance and availability.
Proactively identify, troubleshoot, and resolve infrastructure issues.
Backup & Disaster Recovery:
Oversee routine backup operations for mission-critical systems.
Support data and system recovery activities.
Develop, enhance, and maintain Disaster Recovery (DR) strategies.
Help minimize downtime and ensure data integrity and business continuity.
Production Application Support:
Provide advanced server-level support for enterprise applications using .NET, Java, SQL, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, and warehouse technologies.
Troubleshoot high-impact production issues across hybrid infrastructure and middleware layers.
Support application deployments and infrastructure enhancements.
Perform root-cause analysis and implement long-term solutions for recurring production issues.
Networking & Systems Integration:
Apply strong knowledge of the OSI model and networking protocols to diagnose connectivity and application issues.
Troubleshoot network and system integration problems across infrastructure and application layers.
Collaborate with application, networking, security, and infrastructure teams on deployments and enhancements.
Communication & Collaboration:
Translate business and user requirements into actionable technical solutions.
Communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.
Work closely with the IT Portfolio Manager and Infrastructure & Operations teams.
Align infrastructure engineering activities with organizational objectives and technical requirements.
Required Skills:
Windows Server administration and troubleshooting.
Strong experience with on-premises and cloud-based infrastructure.
Hands-on experience with PowerShell scripting and infrastructure automation.
Experience performing OS upgrades, patching, migrations, and system remediation.
Experience with SCCM or similar enterprise patch-management platforms.
Strong knowledge of server security, endpoint protection, access control, and hardening.
Experience with vulnerability remediation and security compliance.
Strong experience with backup and Disaster Recovery (DR) processes.
Production support experience with Java, .NET, SQL, Oracle, Microsoft Dynamics, and warehouse technologies.
Strong understanding of the OSI model and networking protocols.
Experience troubleshooting complex infrastructure and production application issues.
Experience supporting hybrid infrastructure environments.
Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:
Microsoft-focused certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate or related Microsoft certifications.
Network-focused certifications such as Cisco CCNA or equivalent.
Experience supporting large-scale or mission-critical enterprise environments.
Experience with cloud migration and workload modernization initiatives.
Experience within transportation, government, or other public-sector environments is a plus.
