# Senior Controls Engineer — Niagara N4 ProgrammerEngineeringCovington, Louisiana (Remote-friendly)HybridFull-time$110K–$160K/yr## ABOUT THE ROLEWe're hiring a Senior Controls Engineer to lead programming and integration on our most technical projects. You'll architect Tridium Niagara N4 supervisors, write and tune sequences of operation, integrate BACnet, Modbus, and proprietary protocols, and build HTML5 dashboards that facility teams actually use. About 70% of the work is heads-down engineering from our Covington office (or your home office) and 30% is on-site for startup, commissioning, and customer training. You'll also mentor junior controls technicians and help shape how Vertex delivers software-side scope across every project.## WHAT YOU'LL DO* Architect and configure Tridium Niagara N4 supervisors, JACE controllers, and field controllers* Write, simulate, and tune sequences of operation for AHUs, VAVs, chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and pumping systems* Integrate BACnet/IP, BACnet MS/TP, Modbus RTU/TCP, and proprietary protocols from Trane, Carrier, Daikin, JCI, and others* Build clean, fast HTML5 graphics, dashboards, and alarm routing tied to real facility workflows* Lead site startup and commissioning visits; coordinate with field techs during deployment* Document everything — networks, sequences, points, and as-builts — to a standard the next engineer can pick up cold* Mentor junior engineers and field technicians; review submittals and shop drawings## WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR* 5+ years programming Tridium Niagara (AX and/or N4) in a commissioning or controls integrator role* Strong understanding of HVAC equipment and ASHRAE Guideline 36 sequences of operation* Deep BACnet experience — discovery, addressing, routing, and troubleshooting on real jobs* Niagara N4 Technical Certification (TCP) or equivalent demonstrable expertise* Comfortable on Linux/Windows servers, basic networking (VLANs, static IP planning), and SSL certs* Excellent communication — you'll write specs, scopes, and emails facility owners will read## NICE TO HAVE* +Experience with Niagara Cloud / Niagara Edge* +Python, JavaScript, or kotlin for custom modules and integrations* +Background in mechanical engineering, HVAC design, or commissioning (Cx, CxA, CCP)* +Familiarity with energy modeling and measurement & verification (M&V)## WHAT WE OFFER* Competitive base salary with performance bonuses* Health, dental, and vision insurance* 401(k) with company match* Paid time off and paid holidays* Company vehicle or vehicle allowance for field roles* Tools, laptop, and certifications paid by the company* Continuing education: Niagara N4, BACnet, and OEM training* Remote-friendly schedule with quarterly on-site weeks in Covington* Generous travel comp on field weeks* Annual training budget for conferences (Niagara Summit, ASHRAE, BACnet International)Apply## Apply for Senior Controls Engineer — Niagara N4 ProgrammerSend us your resume and a few words about why this role fits.
