Job description

Business Process Automation Manager

On site, San Diego CA

Compensation: $120,000–$150,000 DOE

About the role

We're a fast-scaling e-commerce services company looking for a systems-minded builder who's energized by turning messy, manual work into clean, scalable automation. As our Business Process Automation Specialist, you'll own the connective layer that lets our operation support a large, growing portfolio of brands without adding headcount at the same pace. You'll design, build, and maintain the custom tools, integrations, and AI-driven workflows that tie our teams together.

What you'll own

Process discovery and design
Work alongside department leads to surface the manual workflows costing the business the most, lost hours, avoidable errors, delays, and dropped handoffs, and put real numbers to them. You'll take fuzzy, ill-defined problems and shape them into scoped, buildable solutions. When a process is broken at the root, you'll make the case to redesign it rather than automate the mess, and you'll look across teams to cut duplicated effort.

Automation infrastructure
Serve as our internal subject-matter expert for custom tooling in the Google ecosystem (Apps Script, Sheets, Docs, Forms). Use platforms like Zapier and Make.com, along with our project management stack, to create seamless cross-team handoffs, for example, a finished task in one function that automatically kicks off a fully pre-populated request to the next. You'll connect our core systems (project management, CRM, Google Workspace, Slack, and BI/reporting tools) so data stays in sync in real time and manual re-entry disappears. You'll also automate recurring end-to-end processes such as client onboarding, reporting pipelines, and internal people-ops workflows, and you'll build in validation, guardrails, and exception handling to error-proof inputs across the org.

AI integration
Spot the places where large language models (Gemini, Claude, ChatGPT, and others) can take over manual analysis, summarizing, categorizing, or data extraction. You'll ship production AI workflows for things like customer-feedback categorization, meeting-transcript analysis, and document parsing — and keep pace as the tooling landscape shifts.

Adoption, documentation, and governance
Drive real adoption through training, clear documentation, and hands-on support. Write and maintain SOPs and runbooks so every workflow is transparent, supportable, and easy to hand off. Partner with IT and business systems on shared infrastructure, access controls, and tool governance.

What you bring

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, IT, Computer Science, or equivalent hands-on experience
  • 5+ years in process improvement, automation, or systems integration, high-growth or multi-client environments a plus
  • Strong skills in Google Apps Script (JavaScript), advanced Google Sheets, and at least one no-code platform (Zapier or Make.com)
  • Practical experience across Google Workspace, a project management tool (e.g., Asana), a BI/reporting tool (e.g., Looker Studio), a CRM (e.g., HubSpot), and at least one LLM API or AI tool
  • Working knowledge of REST APIs and webhooks, including authentication, pagination, and rate limits
  • A knack for turning vague business problems into scoped, shippable work without waiting for a full spec
  • Willingness to push back on stakeholders when a process should be rethought instead of automated
  • A track record of shipping high-impact MVPs iteratively rather than over-building up front
  • E-commerce or online-marketplace operations experience is a bonus
