Woolpert is an award-winning, global leader in architecture, engineering, and geospatial services. We blend design excellence with cutting-edge technology to deliver exceptional client value. Our team is passionate about their work and committed to building the next generation of industry leaders, and as a certified Great Place to Work®, Woolpert embraces progress and innovation to create limitless opportunities for career growth.
Position Overview
Woolpert is seeking a Systems Support Lead to join our Advanced Sensing and Processing team in Gulfport, MS.
This role goes beyond traditional system support-you will be responsible for sustaining and advancing next-generation airborne sensing platforms, including cutting-edge lidar systems operating in mission-critical environments. You will lead the execution and continuous improvement of maintenance, readiness, and reliability strategies across highly integrated electromechanical and software-driven systems.
You will play a key role in ensuring our systems perform at the highest level-supporting real-world deployments, flight operations, and large-scale data acquisition efforts that directly impact national infrastructure, environmental monitoring, and geospatial intelligence programs.
We are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must already possess work authorization in the country the job is located.
What You Will Do:
  • Lead system sustainment and lifecycle support for advanced sensing platforms, driving maximum operational readiness and mission reliability
  • Develop and continuously improve preventative and predictive maintenance strategies for complex, mission-critical systems
  • Support flight operations and field deployments, ensuring systems are properly configured, calibrated, and validated prior to execution
  • Perform hands-on troubleshooting across mechanical, electrical, and integrated system architectures, driving root cause analysis and corrective action
  • Coordinate system integration with aircraft platforms, supporting installation, test, and calibration activities
  • Maintain accurate system configurations and service records to ensure traceability, compliance, and repeatability at scale
  • Contribute to and refine technical documentation, including maintenance procedures, troubleshooting workflows, and operational checklists
  • Collaborate across engineering, operations, and software teams to ensure systems meet performance, scalability, and deployment requirements
  • Interface with vendors and partners to support system upgrades, component reliability, and long-term sustainment strategies

What Sets This Role Apart
  • Direct involvement in cutting-edge airborne sensing systems-not just maintaining hardware, but enabling mission success
  • Opportunity to work across the full stack: hardware, software, flight ops, and data systems
  • High-impact work supporting large-scale geospatial programs and national-level initiatives
  • A fast-moving environment where innovation, problem-solving, and ownership are expected

What You Will Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Physics, or related field; equivalent experience considered
  • 2-7 years of experience supporting or sustaining complex, high-reliability systems in operational or field environments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead or coordinate maintenance and technical support activities
  • Strong hands-on experience troubleshooting electromechanical and integrated systems
  • Working knowledge of structured root cause analysis and failure diagnostics
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to clearly document technical issues and brief both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Willingness to support flight operations, field deployments, and test events as required
  • Ability to operate independently while collaborating across multidisciplinary teams
  • Experience in one or more of the following areas preferred:
    • Aerospace or airborne sensing systems (lidar, imaging, sensors)
    • Robotics, autonomous systems, or embedded platforms
    • High-performance or data-intensive systems
  • Familiarity with:
    • Preventative and predictive maintenance methodologies
    • Configuration management processes
    • System integration, verification, and acceptance testing
  • Comfortable working in fast-paced, test-driven, and deployment-oriented environments
  • Experience coordinating with vendors and suppliers on system performance, reliability, and maintenance
