Job description

Position Summary... What you'll do...Immigration sponsorship is not available for this role. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the United States without current or future visa sponsorship.
This is a full-time, onsite role at our Bentonville, AR office. This position is not eligible for remote work.

About the Team

We’re part of Walmart’s Omni Tech organization, building the distributed systems that power retail operations for more than 6,000 stores across 26 countries and 55 banners — including Canada, Central America, Chile, China, and Mexico. Our work touches millions of customers every day, at truly global scale.

About the Role

We’re looking for a Full Stack Engineer who is passionate about building impactful solutions across the entire technology stack—from intuitive user experiences to scalable backend platforms.

In this role, you'll spend approximately 70% of your time designing and developing applications and automation solutions that support Walmart Marketplace's Business, Product, Program, Engineering, and Operations teams. You'll leverage technologies such as Python, Java, React, and React Native to build tools that improve operational efficiency, enhance decision-making, and solve complex business challenges.

The remaining 30% of your time will focus on building and enhancing backend services and data platforms that power these applications. You'll work with large-scale datasets and distributed systems across multiple platform services to create reliable, scalable, and high-performing solutions.

This role goes beyond traditional software engineering. You'll partner closely with Marketplace Business, Product, Operations, Support, and Engineering teams to solve complex business and technical challenges, investigate high-impact platform and operational issues, and build automation, AI-powered solutions, and internal tools that drive efficiency at scale. You'll have the opportunity to work on executive escalations and ambiguous business problems that require deep analysis, strong technical judgment, and end-to-end ownership.

You'll play a key role in influencing architectural decisions, defining the long-term direction of our systems, and translating business needs into scalable technology solutions that deliver measurable impact for Walmart Marketplace.

What You'll Do
  • Partner with cross-functional teams to understand business challenges and translate requirements into scalable, customer-focused technical solutions.
  • Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code across the full stack using Python, Java, React, and React Native, while maintaining a high bar through code reviews and engineering best practices.
  • Design and build AI-powered applications, automation tools, and operational utilities that improve efficiency and enable better decision-making across Marketplace teams.
  • Leverage data engineering and analytical skills to design data pipelines, generate insights, and build data-driven applications and solutions.
  • Own projects end-to-end—from requirement definition and solution design to implementation, deployment, monitoring, and production support.
  • Thrive in ambiguous environments by identifying problems, defining solutions, and driving execution with minimal direction.
  • Partner with Business, Operations, Product, and Engineering teams to investigate high-priority marketplace issues and develop scalable solutions that improve seller and customer experiences.
  • Investigate and resolve complex platform, operational, and customer-impacting issues with a focus on root-cause analysis and long-term remediation.
  • Communicate clearly and proactively on progress, risks, blockers, and technical trade-offs with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Contribute to the reliability, scalability, and long-term architecture of our platforms through cross-team collaboration and technical leadership.
  • Champion engineering excellence and Walmart's values in every line of code, every review, and every team interaction.

What You'll Bring
  • BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience using Python to build applications, utilities, and workflow automation solutions.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering and analytics, leveraging data models and large-scale data pipelines.
  • 3+ years of Java development experience.
  • 3+ years of experience working with modern front-end frameworks such as React, React Native, Vue, or Angular.
  • Solid experience building, consuming, and integrating REST-based services and APIs.
  • Experience designing and supporting scalable, high-volume production applications and distributed systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, including the ability to perform root-cause analysis across multiple systems and data sources.
  • Experience translating ambiguous business requirements into practical, scalable technical solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to independently own projects from concept through production support and continuous improvement.
  • Experience building automation, operational tooling, AI-powered applications, or internal productivity solutions is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate effectively across Business, Product, Operations, and Engineering teams.
  • A collaborative mindset, strong sense of ownership, and a passion for solving complex problems that create measurable business impact.
