SUMMARY:
The Financial Specialist provides foundational support to the Finance department by performing routine accounting, reconciliation, and reporting functions. This role is responsible for accurate transaction processing, data validation, and assistance with month-end close activities. The Financial Specialist works under close supervision and follows established policies and procedures while gaining exposure to investments, budgeting, and financial reporting within a credit union environment.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist with budget tracking and preparation of basic budget-to-actual variance reports.
  • Assist with month-end close activities including preparation of journal entries, schedules, and supporting documentation.
  • Perform routine reconciliations of general ledger accounts and subsidiary systems; investigate and resolve discrepancies.
  • Support investment and borrowing transaction processing, including trade confirmations, funding, and settlement documentation.
  • Maintain accurate records for investment pools, accrued interest, and amortization schedules.
  • Assist with preparation of financial reports and schedules for internal management and external auditors.
  • Support compilation of NCUA Call Report schedules related to finance areas under supervision.
  • Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Participate in audits, examinations, and internal reviews by providing requested documentation.
  • Maintain and update finance procedures and documentation as directed.
  • Perform other finance-related duties and projects as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, or Business, or equivalent experience.

Experience:
  • 0-2 years of experience in accounting, finance, or a related field.
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experience in a financial institution or credit union environment.
  • Exposure to general ledger systems or core financial software.
