Junior Drafting information

What is a junior drafting?

Junior Drafting jobs involve creating technical drawings and plans used in construction, manufacturing, or engineering projects. Individuals in these roles typically work under the supervision of senior drafters or engineers, using computer-aided design (CAD) software to produce accurate representations of structures or products. Junior drafters help ensure that designs meet relevant specifications and standards, and may also assist with revising plans based on feedback. These positions are often entry-level, providing valuable experience and training for advancement to more senior drafting roles.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be a junior drafter?

To thrive as a Junior Drafting professional, you need a solid understanding of technical drawing principles, familiarity with architectural or engineering standards, and typically an associate degree or certification in drafting or a related field. Proficiency in computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD or Revit is essential. Attention to detail, effective communication, and the ability to take direction help you excel in collaborative project environments. These skills ensure accurate, high-quality drawings that support the successful completion of design and construction projects.

What are common challenges faced by junior drafters during their first year?

Junior Drafters often find their first year challenging as they adapt to industry-specific drafting standards, learn new CAD software, and manage deadlines for multiple projects. Collaborating effectively with engineers, architects, and senior drafters can also require strong communication skills. However, with mentorship and hands-on experience, most junior drafters quickly develop the technical proficiency and confidence needed to contribute meaningfully to their teams.

What is the difference between Junior Drafting vs Drafting Technician?

Junior Drafting roles typically involve assisting senior drafters with basic tasks, requiring foundational CAD skills. Drafting Technicians often handle more complex drawings and revisions independently. Both roles are common in engineering and architecture firms, but Drafting Technicians usually have more experience and responsibilities.

Are junior drafters still in demand?

Junior drafters are still in demand in industries such as architecture, engineering, and construction, where CAD (Computer-Aided Design) skills and familiarity with drafting software are valued. Employment opportunities depend on regional construction activity and infrastructure projects, with entry-level roles often requiring basic technical skills and certifications.

How to become a junior drafting with no experience?

To become a junior drafter with no experience, focus on gaining basic knowledge of drafting software such as AutoCAD or Revit through online courses or tutorials. Building a portfolio of simple projects and obtaining relevant certifications can also improve your chances, as employers often value foundational skills and a willingness to learn. Entry-level positions may require a high school diploma or equivalent, with on-the-job training provided for specific tools and standards.

Job description

Reporting Relationship: This position will report to the Video Director at The Tebow Group.

Summary:  Seeking a diligent and versatile individual with on-set expertise to assist across pre-production, production, and post-production phases. This role involves utilizing AI technology to generate initial script drafts for Video Director review and managing all production timelines and milestones. This position requires flexibility for evening, weekend, and travel commitments, offering a clear path toward independent creative oversight and shoot management.

Top Five Responsibilities:

  1. Project Coordination
  2. Meeting Logistics
  3. Quality Control
  4. Communication Liaison
  5. Asset & File Management

Responsibilities:

  • Drafts first-cut scripts using AI tools, producing near-final copy that gives the Video Director a strong foundation to review, refine, and finalize efficiently
  • Manages talent and client communication, including call sheets and shot lists on smaller shoots, while supporting the Senior Producer on larger productions
  • Owns scheduling and project tracking across active video productions, keeping multiple projects moving simultaneously and troubleshooting remotely when the team is on location
  • On-set problem solver, supporting production logistics across larger shoots and independently owning day-of needs — craft services, wardrobe, HMU, props, and more — on smaller productions.
  • Organize, catalog, and distribute necessary project assets (e.g., scriptis, artwork, footage, copy) to ensure the creative team has what they need when they need it.
  • Act as a central point of contact for internal creative teams (designers, writers, editors) and external vendors, facilitating clear communication and action items.
  • Help monitor project expenses, process vendor invoices, and track resource allocation to keep projects within their financial guardrails.

You might be a good fit if:

You have 2 years of hands-on set experience, but want to be more creative and have an opportunity to grow in your script writing skills.

OR

You're a junior or mid-level copywriter, who is highly organized, and wanting to expand into the video world with script writing and producing.
