What are some common challenges faced by junior developers in their first year on the job?

Junior developers often encounter challenges such as adapting to new codebases, understanding team workflows, and balancing learning with delivering results. It's common to feel overwhelmed by unfamiliar technologies or development tools at first. However, most teams provide mentorship, code reviews, and regular feedback to help juniors grow their skills and confidence. Collaboration with more experienced developers and asking questions are key to overcoming these early hurdles and building a strong foundation for future growth.

What is a junior developer?

Junior Developers are entry-level professionals in software development who are responsible for writing, testing, and maintaining code under the guidance of more experienced developers. They typically work as part of a team, learning best practices and industry standards while contributing to various stages of the software development lifecycle. Junior Developers are expected to have foundational programming skills, a willingness to learn, and the ability to adapt quickly to new technologies.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior developer, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Developer, you need a basic understanding of programming languages, software development principles, and a relevant degree or coding bootcamp certification. Familiarity with version control systems like Git, integrated development environments (IDEs), and debugging tools is typically required. Strong problem-solving abilities, eagerness to learn, and effective communication skills help you collaborate and grow within a team. These skills and qualities are essential for contributing to projects, adapting to new technologies, and progressing in a fast-paced development environment.

MicroMetrics

Ottawa, ON • On-site

Full-time

Re-posted 13 days ago

Job description

For nearly a decade, Micrometrics has been dedicated to enhancing the communication experience between frontline workers and their customers. By improving face-to-face interactions and facilitating connections at scale, our clients harness cutting-edge technologies to elevate Customer Experience (CX) and Operational Efficiency (OE) at participating locations.
We are now building EL8, an intuitive service optimization platform utilizing innovative engagement techniques, intelligent data collection workflows, and outcome automations to enable hotel teams to excel in their roles and deliver exceptional service.

About this role

We are seeking high-energy, impact players to support our aggressive growth as Junior Business Development Representatives (BDR). As the first point of contact with our customers, BDRs are responsible for driving revenue growth by generating opportunities for Senior Account Executives (AEs). Junior BDRs take greater ownership of the entire sales process, assisting AEs in converting interested prospects. Top performers are expected to transition into a Senior BDR role in under nine months and will be rewarded with further growth opportunities, incentive pay, and more.

The ideal candidate has a passion for learning and excelling in SaaS sales. Experience in SaaS is not mandatory. You will join a closely-knit team dedicated to strengthening our presence in the hospitality and travel markets across North America. This role demands exceptional communication skills and meticulous attention to detail.

You will be responsible for:

  • High-volume prospecting, call outreach and top-of-funnel SaaS sales
  • Identify new opportunities by reaching out to prospects via telephone, email and LinkedIn to introduce our hospitality product
  • Initiate outbound lead generation programs, including cold-calling prospects
  • Engage with decision makers to identify (discover) the needs and challenges of their hotels
  • Work with Account Executives to transition prospects through the entire sales process from interest to conversion
  • Grow, maintain and manage a pipeline by leveraging Micrometrics’ prospect database
  • Handle prospect objections and follow up with decision-makers using different outbound sales tactics and tools
  • Work with Senior Leadership to develop new strategies, grow the sales pipeline, and consistently meet personal and team goals
  • Motivate and support team members to achieve sales targets/individual results

We will be reaching out to candidates that have:

  • Strong organizational skills, self-motivation, and the ability to work autonomously and remotely
  • Comfortable in a high-volume, top-of-funnel role
  • Desire to develop a career in Business Development/SaaS Sales, with a strong technical aptitude
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills
  • A post-secondary degree is an asset

Why Micrometrics

At Micrometrics, innovation drives us. We are dedicated to reshaping communication and elevating experiences within the hospitality and travel industries through cutting-edge technology. As a member of our team, you'll be at the forefront of this transformation, contributing to projects that make a real difference. We pride ourselves on a supportive and collaborative work environment, where high performers are recognized with advancement opportunities, incentive pay, and more. Join us and be part of our mission to help businesses forge deeper, more meaningful connections with their customers.

Hybrid Work

Initial training will occur in-person at our offices in downtown Ottawa and is expected to last up to 4 weeks. Following this period, BDRs that are achieving quota will have the opportunity to transition to a hybrid work environment that includes 2-3 days of work from home per week.
