Job Title: Electrical Engineer

Job Description

This role offers an opportunity for a motivated Electrical Engineer to design and develop building electrical systems for commercial and industrial projects while progressing toward project management and client-facing responsibilities. You will join a collaborative, growth-oriented team where you can deepen your technical expertise, contribute to impactful projects, and develop leadership skills in a supportive, long-term career environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop electrical systems for commercial and industrial building projects, including power distribution systems, lighting design, and electrical infrastructure and equipment layouts for building construction.
  • Design and coordinate utility and service feeds into buildings to ensure reliable and code-compliant power delivery.
  • Support the development of detailed construction documents and drawings, collaborating closely with internal and external project teams using Revit and other design tools.
  • Prepare and review schematic designs and electrical layouts that align with project requirements, budgets, and schedules.
  • Translate complex electrical engineering concepts into clear, understandable communication for clients and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with architects, engineers, and other project stakeholders to deliver high-quality, integrated building designs.
  • Gradually assume increased responsibility for project coordination, including managing design tasks, tracking progress, and supporting client interactions.
  • Participate in client meetings as responsibilities grow, contributing to discussions on design options, technical solutions, and project planning.
  • Contribute to a team-oriented environment by sharing knowledge, offering constructive feedback, and supporting the professional growth of junior engineers.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to less experienced staff, particularly for candidates at higher levels or with strong mentorship capabilities.
  • Leverage industrial project experience, where applicable, to enhance project execution and design quality.
  • Maintain a strong focus on quality, accuracy, and consistency in all design work, documentation, and communication.

Essential Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field such as Construction Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology (EET).
  • 5+ years of building electrical design experience preferred, with a focus on commercial and industrial facilities.
  • Demonstrated experience with power distribution and building electrical systems, including panelboards, feeders, and branch circuits.
  • Experience in lighting design and electrical infrastructure for buildings, including layouts and fixture coordination.
  • Experience designing service and utility feeds into buildings, including coordination with utilities and other disciplines.
  • Proficiency or familiarity with Revit for electrical design and coordination of construction documents.
  • Experience with electrical design tools and software such as AutoCAD for drafting and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work effectively in a client-facing environment and explain technical concepts clearly.
  • Demonstrated interest in growing into a project management and leadership role over time.
  • Collaborative, low-ego mindset with openness to feedback and a strong team orientation.
  • Willingness to work hard, take ownership of tasks, and grow within a structured career path.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Exposure to power generation systems, including electrical power generation, is a plus.
  • Controls and PLC experience is acceptable but not required, as it is not a core focus of the role.
  • Engineers with 10–15+ years of experience, with or without a Professional Engineer (PE) license, are welcome to apply depending on the depth of system design expertise.
  • Experience mentoring and developing junior engineers or technical staff is highly valued.
  • Hands-on backgrounds such as electricians or field professionals who have moved into project management or design roles are considered.
  • Industrial project experience is highly valued and can enhance success in this role.
  • Revit experience is preferred but training can be provided for candidates with strong fundamentals.
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary environment alongside architecture, MEP engineering, and interior design teams.
  • Interest in long-term career growth with the potential to move into partnership for the right individual, reflecting strong performance, leadership, and commitment.

Flexible hours allow employees to manage personal appointments and responsibilities as long as their work is completed. The environment is not driven by strict clock-watching, and there is no pressure to participate in excessive out-of-office events, supporting a balanced professional and personal life. The company offers competitive benefits, including paying a portion of insurance premiums, a 401(k) with 100% match up to 5%, and access to a company car when traveling for work. The business has a long history of stability, with very few layoffs over more than two decades and a steady workload, particularly in the healthcare sector, which forms a large portion of the project portfolio.
