YE-Physical Failure Analysis Engineering Intern-Summer 2026

As a Technology Development Yield Enhancement (YE) Engineering Intern at Micron Technology, you will be exposed to the field of Physical Failure Analysis (PFA). The goal of this internship is to gain experience in all facets of the type of work that is done in YE and to accelerate the cycles of learning in Micron's state of the art Fabs. We need engineers who enjoy problem solving and are willing to seek out innovative ways to confirm physical failures and improve yield. Are you up for the challenge?

We will assign you a project to develop critical thinking and problem-solving skills. The work you're doing will influence and improve how we are able to do failure analysis. At the end of the period, we want you to have a deep understanding of the processes, device operation, and problem-solving strategies used in today's semiconductor yield department. We will enable this with groundbreaking techniques, using next generation equipment, and have the chance to create a difference, today!

Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate understanding of electrical testing and physical failure analysis on DRAM, NAND, or Emerging memory devices.

  • Delayering failing devices using a variety of wet and dry techniques.

  • Focused Ion Beam and STEM/TEM usage for cross section analysis and SEM operation for top-down analysis.

  • Generate slice and view images for inline process improvement feedback.

  • Recognize, identify, and raise awareness of new failure mechanisms with the motivation of "who needs to know this now!"

  • AI proficiency or AIenabled (Using AI, Applying AI, Leveraging AI) ways of working where applicable within YE.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • First year to Junior level course work for a 4-year program or graduating level class work by spring semester 2027
  • Majoring in one of the following bachelor's degrees: Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Materials Science and Engineering, Physics, Chemistry or Chemical Engineering.
  • An understanding of working in a laboratory with good analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Interests in applying PFA to software development.

  • Basic understanding of computer program architecture and coding.

  • Proactive and passionate about learning (training and coursework).

  • Highly motivated, with a strong work ethic, and can work independently.
