Job description

Lochmueller Group is seeking an experienced civil engineering leader, licensed in the State of Illinois or Missouri, to guide both roadway engineering design projects and the team members who deliver them. This position will serve as the Roadway Engineering Team Leader for our Roadway Design groups in Edwardsville or St. Louis, providing technical direction, project oversight, and people leadership. 
This role can be based out of any of our Illinois office locations, including Edwardsville, Belleville, Springfield, and Champaign, as well as our St. Louis, MO office.

This position will oversee a team of engineers throughout all project phases, ensuring quality and timely delivery of roadway design projects for DOT and local agencies. Key responsibilities will include:
  • Team Leadership: Leading a team that may consist of engineers and design technicians. Providing mentorship and guidance to junior-level engineers and other team members to aid in their professional development. Fostering a collaborative and positive work environment among the team.
  • Project Management: Serving as a project manager for IDOT/ or MoDOT and local agency roadway design projects. Overseeing and participating in project execution from initiation to completion. Monitoring project progress, identifying potential risks, and implementing mitigation strategies as needed.
  • Project Delivery & Quality: Performing quality checks on work performed by project team members. Providing leadership in the planning, design, and execution of major projects. Preparing project documents and designs, conducting analyses, interpreting data, and planning and coordinating the engineering work to ensure timely and successful project delivery. Reviewing and approving project deliverables, including drawings and specifications. Serving as a technical expert in Roadway design. Identifying opportunities for process improvement and implementing measures to enhance efficiency, productivity, and quality of work.
  • Client Relationship Management: Maintaining and enhancing relationships with clients, ensuring a high level of service, communication, and client satisfaction. Collaborating with senior management on strategic planning and assisting with business development. Preparing proposals and/or funding applications.
  • As additional opportunities present themselves, this role may also perform other duties and responsibilities. 
Qualifications for this role:
  • Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
  • Professional Engineer (PE).
  • Typically requires 10+ years of progressive experience in Roadway Design Engineering; experience on DOT roadway projects is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain and enhance client relationships.
  • Experience with project management and accounting software.
  • Exceptional organization skills.
  • Proficiency with relevant engineering software and tools for design, project management, and analysis.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products including: Teams, Excel, Outlook, Word, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Valid Driver's License
