JOB DESCRIPTION:
We are seeking a Junior Database Administrator to manage, monitor, and optimize mission-critical database systems in Azure SQL Managed Instance and SQL Server environments. This role ensures high availability, performance, security, and compliance across all database platforms. You will work closely with the Lead Data Architect to maintain database stability, support ETL processes, and enforce security policies.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Deploy, configure, and maintain Azure SQL Managed Instances and SQL Server, ensuring 24/7 availability for mission-critical workloads.
  • Design and implement backup/recovery strategies, disaster-recovery plans, and database version upgrades.
  • Conduct performance tuning, index optimization, and query optimization, using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and SQL Server DMVs.
  • Enforce role-based access control (RBAC), encryption, and auditing to meet NIST, RMF, and DoD STIG requirements.
  • Develop and manage Azure Data Factory pipelines, triggers, and linked services for seamless data import/export operations.
  • Collaborate with the Lead Architect to align database design with the data-warehouse strategy.
  • Support application teams with schema changes, stored procedures, and performance issues.
  • Integrate database deployments into CI/CD pipelines, automating routine tasks with PowerShell, ARM templates, or Terraform.

REQUIRED SKILLS:

  • 1-2+ years of experience as a database administrator, with strong expertise in Microsoft SQL Server and Azure SQL.
  • CompTIA Security+ certification
  • Bachelor’s or higher in Engineering, Science, or IT.
  • Proven experience with database performance tuning, indexing, query optimization, backup and recovery solutions.
  • Experience with Azure security tools (Key Vault, Microsoft Entra ID, Azure Policy).
  • Strong scripting skills (T-SQL, PowerShell, Bash).


PREFERRED SKILLS:

  • Certification in Microsoft Azure Database Administration.
  • Experience with automated database deployment and DevOps pipelines.
  • Knowledge of database monitoring tools (Azure Monitor, Log Analytics).
