Job Summary:
1872 Consulting is seeking a Manager for Database Administration to oversee a team of skilled DBAs. The role involves managing database capacity planning, maintenance, and providing support for Ecommerce and Internal Data Management Applications.
Responsibilities:
• Manage a team of highly skilled DBAs responsible for capacity planning, installation, on-going maintenance of all our databases that support various Ecommerce Applications and Internal Data Management Applications.
• Oversee and manage capacity planning, installation, on-going maintenance (upgrades, patches, monitoring, regular backups etc.) of all databases that support various Data Management Applications at CR.
• Architect, administer, and provide 24*7 support to ensure zero downtime to the production applications.
• Collaborate with multiple cross functional teams and business leaders (System Admins, DevOps, Ecommerce Engineering, Web Engineering) to understand their data / database needs and provide/implement strategic solutions as needed.
• Drive efforts to streamline database administration by contributing to the implementation of a continuous monitoring model and automating manual processes.
• Oversee the development and maintenance of data feeds and reports.
• Create and present proposals for future database architecture that support business strategies.
• Responsible for defining and execute database cloud migration strategy.
• Troubleshoot complex problems regarding the databases, applications and development tools; Perform ongoing tuning of the database instances; controls migrations of programs, database changes, and reference data changes through the development lifecycle.
• Responsible for hiring, development and evaluation of applications development staff; coaches and mentors more junior staff.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Bachelor degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering or similar technical discipline is required.
• 7+ years of experience architecting and administrating large scale databases
• Strong knowledge and hands-on DBA experience with Oracle (database installations, security management, backup and recovery, performance tuning etc.)
• Strong knowledge and hands-on DBA experience working with database services on AWS Cloud (RDS). (AWS Certifications are a plus)
• Strong knowledge and hands-on DBA experience with SQL, PL/SQL, and Unix shell Scripting.
• Working experience with object-oriented Programming languages, frameworks, BI Tools - Java/JEE, HTML, CSS, JavaScript, REST APIs, Tableau. (One should be able to read/review the code and mentor team members)
• Basic knowledge of other DBMS Systems (MongoDB, BigQuery etc).
• Experience in development and implementation of large-scale data migrations, ETLs, Data Feeds, and Reports.
Preferred:
• Experience working in ECommerce domain is a plus.
• Experience working with modern tools in the Agile software development life cycle - Version Control Systems (Ex. git, github, Stash/BitBucket), Knowledge Management (Ex. Confluence, Google Docs), Development Workflow (Ex. Jira), Continuous Integration (Ex. Bamboo), Real Time Collaboration (Ex. Hipchat, Slack)
