Chenega Agile Real-Time Solutions (CARS) was created with the purpose of providing integrated enterprise IT support to Federal customers both CONUS and OCONUS. CARS employs Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) with decades of experience working in the Federal marketplace. 

The Jr. Database Engineer, you will work with a broad range of customers on

enterprise database design and implementation strategies while applying Esri technology best

practices. You will consult with customers to understand business and technical

requirements, design enterprise data management strategies, and implement those strategies

throughout the engagement life cycle. You will work both independently and as part of

project teams to configure back-end geospatial database management capabilities that

support customer workflows utilizing ArcGIS web, desktop, and mobile applications.


Responsibilities
  • Design and implement robust, scalable, and secure database solutions to support mission-critical applications
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams during all phases of implementation, including requirements, analysis, design, build/configuration, and deployment
  • Configure and maintain database environments, including backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery strategies
  • Monitor and tune database performance using industry-standard tools and methodologies (such as query optimization, indexing strategies)
  • Implement data security measures, access controls, and compliance standards across environments
  • Automate routine database loading, maintenance, and monitoring tasks to improve efficiency
  • Provide technical guidance and best practices for database design, migration, and integration projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, mathematics, GIS, or related STEM field
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience in database design, administration, and optimization for Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, or SAP HANA
    • Familiarity with database design principles, data loading techniques, backup and recovery solutions, performance monitoring and tuning, database maintenance, and security
    • Scripting skills in SQL and Python for automation and data workflows
  • Active or Current (within two years of active) Top Secret Security Clearance with SCI eligibility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in technical support or customer-facing GIS roles
  • Experience with data conversion or migration
  • Knowledge of Linux and UNIX environments
  • Familiarity with web mapping and remote sensing tools
  • Proficiency in Python scripting and SQL
  • GIS certifications

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Linux, UNIX, and/or Windows environments
  • Exposure to geospatial concepts such as spatial data types, coordinate systems, and spatial indexing
  • Ability to clearly communicate complex technical concepts to technical peers and nontechnical project managers or customers
  • Ability to work independently and yet be effective within a team setting
  • Must be capable of managing multiple efforts with time-related constraints in a fast-paced contracting environment
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with diverse internal and external stakeholder groups and individuals
  • Friendly presence, helpful attitude, good interpersonal skills, and ability to work well with others.
  • Excellent skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, and other Office applications
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Applications, and experience working in a home office setting, as well as the ability to train end users on frequently asked technical issues.
  • Ability to provide technical assistance and support over the phone; good phone skills, professional demeanor, and previous customer service experience strongly desired.
  • Good problem-solving skills; ability to visualize a problem/situation and think abstractly to solve it
