Junior Data Analyst - Azure Databricks

The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is seeking a Junior Data Analyst with hands-on experience in Azure Databricks, PySpark, and Power BI. The selected candidate will support enterprise data initiatives through building aggregations, dashboards, and reporting solutions. This role requires strong analytical capabilities and the ability to translate business needs into scalable, data-driven solutions.
You will work closely with technical leads, data engineers, and cross-functional stakeholders to deliver insight-driven data products and reporting tools.
Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform data analysis, data mapping, and data quality assurance using Azure Databricks and related tools
  • Write efficient Spark SQL and Python (PySpark) code to analyze large datasets
  • Collaborate with data engineers and business users to define, design, and implement data models and visualizations
  • Design and develop Power BI and Databricks native dashboards to present actionable insights
  • Develop Gold-layer data products to support dashboards, APIs, and user interfaces
  • Create and maintain documentation for data models, pipelines, dashboards, and reporting workflows
  • Apply dimensional modeling, entity-relationship modeling, and data normalization/denormalization
  • Conduct statistical analyses and use ML algorithms to uncover trends and support decision-making (preferred)
  • Support project planning, design discussions, and change management documentation
Minimum Qualifications:
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Azure Databricks, especially in enterprise environments
  • Proficient in SQL and Python (PySpark) for querying, transforming, and analyzing data
  • Experience with data modeling techniques: dimensional modeling, ER modeling, Data Vault, etc.
  • Ability to collaborate across teams and translate complex data requirements into technical and visual solutions
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with data science concepts, including machine learning algorithms and statistical analysis
  • Databricks Data Analyst Associate Certification
  • Background in state/local government or public sector analytics projects
