Job description

Lakeland Co-op is currently inviting applications for the position of JUNIOR ACCOUNTANT to join our team on a full-time basis at our Administration Office at 6020-54 Avenue, Bonnyville, Alberta.

We've been working to build our community since our association was established in 1984. 

What you'll do: Reporting to the Controller, we are looking for a skilled and detailed Junior Accountant with a minimum of two years of experience in a similar role.

The Junior Accountant will perform a wide range of duties including but not limited to: 

  • Full cycle accounting including periodic account reconciliations and journal entries
  • Complete periodic closes and generate fully-analyzed financial statements
  • Ensure on-time reconciliation of GL accounts, ensuring they are properly supported/cleared 
  • Assist with annual working papers and documents that meet audit requirements
  • Complete bank adjustment entries
  • Calculation and review of inventory as prepared by department managers
  • Prepare and implement schedule of audits and cash counts covering all departments
  • Continuously conduct audits and follow up on all irregularities, variances and shortages and maintain documentation on the same
  • Prepare and file government returns as needed
  • Complete monthly investigation of margins
  • Additional duties and projects assigned by the Controller
     

Who you are: We are seeking Junior Accountant candidates with the following preferred qualifications:

  • An Accounting degree or diploma
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an accounting role, or a combination of education and experience
  • Exceptional computer knowledge and extensive experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook 
  • Experience handling sensitive/confidential information
  • You are committed to accuracy and attention to detail with strong organization skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with well-developed telephone skills
  • Knowledge about the Co-op Retailing System is an asset but not required
  • Acceptance of Lakeland Co-op's Health and Safety Policies and Procedures
