Job description

Job Title: Senior Life Safety & Fire Protection Engineer
Role Overview
We are seeking a Senior Life Safety & Fire Protection Engineer to provide technical leadership for our complex building infrastructure projects. You will act as a primary point of contact for project design, ensuring that our fire alarm, detection, and suppression systems are safe, code-compliant, and optimized for performance.
This is a senior-level position for an engineer who is ready to take ownership. You will serve as the "Engineer of Record" on various initiatives, leading the design process from concept through construction documentation. Whether you are performing complex calculations, mentoring junior designers, or navigating local code requirements with government officials, your work will be the foundation of safety for our most high-profile facilities.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Design
• Project Ownership: Lead the end-to-end design process, including preliminary assessments, conceptual layouts, and the production of technical specifications.
• Engineering Authority: Serve as the Lead Engineer on mid-to-large-scale projects. Perform complex calculations, determine equipment sizing, and provide signed/sealed construction deliverables.
• BIM/Design Integration: Oversee the technical output of your design team. Coordinate with architects, mechanical/electrical engineers, and BIM specialists to ensure highly constructible 2D and 3D designs.
Compliance & External Liaison
• Regulatory Advocacy: Interface directly with state and local code officials to negotiate solutions and resolve site-specific fire/life safety challenges.
• Compliance Strategy: Apply advanced knowledge of NFPA, IBC, and IFC codes to ensure every facility meets both international standards and specific site requirements.
• Technical Guidance: Act as a mentor to junior designers. Foster a culture of technical rigor, curiosity, and collaborative problem-solving.
Qualifications & Requirements
Minimum Qualifications
• Education: Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or Fire Protection preferred).
• Experience Baseline: Extensive experience in fire alarm/suppression system design.
• Technical Mastery: Deep knowledge of NFPA 70, 72, 101 and local Building/Fire codes.
• Design Proficiency: Experience with Autodesk Revit design workflows.
• Project Leadership: Proven ability to manage project resources, lead cross-functional design meetings, and manage mid-to-large-scale project timelines.
Preferred Attributes
• Professional Engineering (PE) License: Highly desired.
• Experience with specialized suppression system design and smoke modeling.
• Strong "Client-Facing" skills: The ability to translate technical safety constraints into solutions that satisfy both client expectations and code requirements.
• Experience in estimating and project scheduling for construction-heavy infrastructure.
