Job Title: Civil Engineer – Water ResourcesJob Description

This Civil Engineer role focuses on the planning, design, and delivery of water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, storage facilities, and distribution and collection systems. You will lead technical design efforts, ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and federal standards, support permitting activities, and collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver optimized, cost-effective, and sustainable water resources solutions. The position offers a hybrid work model and the opportunity to mentor junior engineers while contributing to the growth of a dynamic water resources practice.

Responsibilities
  • Plan and design water and wastewater treatment facilities, pumping stations, storage facilities, and distribution and collection systems in accordance with ASCE, NSF/ANSI standards, and applicable regulations, including the Clean Water Act (CWA) and Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA).
  • Develop designs that thoughtfully integrate client needs, operability, and constructability to ensure practical and efficient project delivery.
  • Perform feasibility and planning studies for water resources projects, incorporating hydraulic process and environmental evaluations and analyses in line with EPA and NJDEP guidelines.
  • Prepare engineering calculations, engineering reports, technical specifications, cost estimates, and contract documents that comply with NJDEP regulations, NPDES permitting criteria, and other federal, state, and local requirements.
  • Conduct site inspections and field assessments to support design and construction phases, verifying that implementation aligns with NJDEP, EPA, and local environmental standards.
  • Lead and support regulatory permitting efforts, including NJPDES permits, Treatment Works Approvals, and coordination with the Bureau of Water System Engineering, to ensure full regulatory compliance.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with internal multidisciplinary teams such as Structural, Civil, and MEP, as well as vendors and subcontractors, to deliver integrated, high-quality project solutions.
  • Manage technical scope, project budgets, and schedules in a fast-paced environment, helping to expand the firm’s water resources project portfolio.
  • Demonstrate strong understanding of maintaining and tracking fast-paced project budgets and schedules to meet client and regulatory milestones.
  • Mentor and support junior engineering staff by sharing technical expertise, regulatory knowledge, and design procedures to strengthen the water resources practice.
  • Incorporate energy and water efficiency measures, life cycle cost analysis, and sustainable design principles as recommended by EPA and national water resources planning guidelines into project designs.
Essential Skills
  • At least 6 years of experience in water resources engineering.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $120000.00 - $150000.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
