Dates of Camp: Regular Camp session is Monday, June 8, 2026 - Friday, August 7, 2026. Additional work available through Wednesday, August 12, 2026 for Post Camp.ย

The Place:ย The Oshman Family Jewish Community Center (OFJCC) is an exciting and innovative non-profit organization in the heart of Silicon Valley. We create fun, meaningful, inclusive and joyful experiences through educational, social, cultural, spiritual, fitness and wellness programs.ย 


The Job:ย Are you a great role model and love interacting with kids? If so, this might be the role for you! As aย Hebrew Immersion Junior Camp Counselor you will be responsible for the support of engaging and supervising children ranging from 4-12 years old .ย  Camp Counselors are role models, who are responsible for creating a welcoming and safe environment for campers to grow and learn, and lead activities that are fun, exciting, and intentional through our camp values. Counselors in Tayasim, Hebrew Immersion Camp, will provide these services primarily, and almost exclusively, while speaking Hebrew with the campers.ย

The Core Duties:ย 
  • With the support of the camp counselor, Jr Camp Counselors will help supervise an assigned group of campers during the camp day to ensure the safety and well-being of each camper
  • Be a role model to campers and staff by maintaining a positive attitude when interacting with campers, other staff, and camp families and set a good example to campers and others in regard to general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule and sportsmanship
  • Partner with J-Camp leadership, International Staff (shlichim), Tayasim Project Leader and Kaytiz Kef representatives to provide authentic Hebrew Immersion programming
  • Speak primarily Hebrew to Tayasim campers, throughout the day and in accordance to training
  • Lead and co-lead a variety of camp value-based camp activities for your camper group, including but not limited to: arts and crafts, sports, stem projects, water play and swimming, classic camp games, and teambuilding
  • Participate enthusiastically and lead your group in elements of Chavurah (morning song session), Lโ€™hitraot (afternoon song session and gratitude), and Shabbat

The Essentials:
  • Ability to provide guidance and engagement to children, grades kindergarten to sixth grade, in Hebrew.
  • 16 years of age
  • Experience working with youth in a camp or other recreational setting
  • Maintain a positive attitude in complex situations after working long hours
  • Adjust quickly to changes with open mind and flexibility
  • Recognize and respond to emergency situations
  • Ability to meaningfully engage with all age levels
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.ย  Ability to communicate information clearly (both written and oral)
  • Ability to make sound independent judgment and decisions when circumstances arise
  • Positive, upbeat and enthusiastic about working with children
  • Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with a diverse group that includes OFJCC staff, parents, children and the public
  • Certified in CPR for Children and Adults (or ability to obtain certification upon employment)
