What Is a Junior Business Analyst?

A junior business analyst (BA) works with project teams and a senior business analyst to make sure the products or applications in development meet the needs of the end users. Data analysis is one of their top responsibilities, and they report your findings to the senior analyst and the developers. Job duties include gathering systems information, analyzing how projects affect business outcomes, and providing feedback to developers working on the deliverable. It is their responsibility to help make sure the final deliverable meets project specifications and qualifications.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a Junior Business Analyst, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Junior Business Analyst, you need analytical thinking, basic business knowledge, and a relevant degree such as business, finance, or information systems. Familiarity with tools like Microsoft Excel, SQL, and data visualization software, as well as understanding of business process modeling, is typically expected. Strong communication, problem-solving, and attention to detail help you collaborate effectively with stakeholders and translate requirements into actionable insights. These skills ensure accurate data analysis and support informed decision-making within organizations.

What are some common challenges faced by Junior Business Analysts when working on cross-functional teams?

Junior Business Analysts often encounter challenges related to bridging communication gaps between technical and non-technical stakeholders. They may need to translate business requirements into technical specifications and ensure both sides have a clear understanding of project goals. Additionally, adapting to different working styles and managing shifting priorities can be demanding. Proactively seeking feedback, asking clarifying questions, and collaborating closely with team members help overcome these obstacles and support project success.

What does a Junior Business Analyst do?

They typically work under the supervision of senior analysts, gathering and documenting requirements, conducting research, and helping to implement solutions. This role often involves collaborating with stakeholders, preparing reports, and using data to support business objectives. Junior Business Analysts help bridge the gap between IT and business teams to ensure project success.

Job description

Junior Business Analyst

At Cytora, now an Applied Systems company, our AI-powered platform is reshaping how insurers and brokers connect, decide, and grow across the global insurance ecosystem. We move fast, think big, and build things that matter. If you're energized by meaningful innovation and want to shape what's next in Insurtech, this is where that work happens.

This role is aligned to our hub locations. While we're especially interested in candidates in or near these areas, we welcome applications from outside of these locations as well.

We're looking for a Junior Business Analyst to join our Customer Success Team and help drive meaningful outcomes at the intersection of AI and insurance. You'll collaborate with people who bring diverse perspectives, challenge each other to think bigger, and move together toward shared goals. Here, you'll have real ownership, real problems to solve, and a team that's genuinely invested in your growth.

  • Support day-to-day work within the client delivery team, contributing to sprint planning, backlog refinement, and risk identification under the guidance of your Delivery Manager.
  • Work alongside Mid and Senior Level BAs to develop your understanding of client delivery, best practices, and the broader BA function.
  • Participate in client discovery workshops, learning to identify opportunities for Cytora to add value.
  • Help translate client business needs into clear requirements, user stories, and process designs.
  • Assist in identifying data inputs, system integration points, and exception scenarios during solution design.
  • Support analytical reporting of product performance using tools such as Thoughtspot.
  • Learn to design and document AI-driven workflows, including prompt strategies and reporting processes.
  • Look for opportunities to improve efficiency through AI tools including automating repetitive tasks and improving documentation.
  • Support test activities including writing acceptance criteria, assisting with UAT, and documenting edge cases.
  • Collaborate within agile delivery teams, learning to manage priorities and dependencies.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement by monitoring live solutions and flagging areas for enhancement.

If this role sounds like the right next move, we'd love to hear from you. You might bring:

  • Some Business Analysis experience or relevant transferable skills (internship, placement, or early career welcome).
  • An interest in or exposure to the insurance sector (underwriting, claims, policy administration, or distribution) is a plus but not essential.
  • A willingness to learn how to engage with clients and stakeholders in a professional, confident manner.
  • Curiosity about AI tools including prompt engineering and AI-assisted workflows and a desire to develop hands-on skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Multilingual skills are a bonus fluency in English is required, additional languages are advantageous.

We're building the future of insurance and we're doing it together. At Cytora, now an Applied Systems company, we're driven by a shared mission to transform the industry through AI-powered solutions that deliver smarter decisions, stronger connections, and better outcomes.

We build a culture that sees you not just your output. You're a teammate and you matter here. We draw on the full range of our team's backgrounds and experiences because that diversity is what makes our thinking stronger and our products better.

We believe flexibility fuels performance. Whether remote, hybrid, or in-office, we empower our teams to work in ways that work best for them.

  • Competitive salary + OTE
  • Flexible working and remote options
  • Professional development budget & conference access
  • Annual company retreats
  • A mission-driven culture that puts people first
