Job description

Senior Business Intelligence Developer

Location: Hybrid - Austin, Texas

Compensation:Competitive compensation + benefits

About This Role

The Senior Business Intelligence Developer is a full-time technical ownership role for TogetherWork Corporate's business intelligence portfolio, accountable for the full analytics stack - from data ingestion and warehousing through the semantic models, embedded analytics, and executive reporting that leadership, internal teams, and enterprise customers rely on to make decisions.

Working across multiple production reporting platforms and a wide range of data sources, the role blends hands-on development with architecture and platform ownership: building and maintaining Power BI datasets, dataflows, and reports; engineering and safeguarding the pipelines beneath them; administering capacity, licensing, and access; and ensuring the accuracy, reliability, performance, and security of every deliverable. It carries reporting workstreams through their full lifecycle - from requirements and design to UAT, production deployment, ongoing maintenance, and, where needed, migration or handoff.

As a senior member of the team, this role sets technical standards and best practices, leads reliability and platform-migration efforts, and partners closely with Finance, Product, Data Engineering, Customer Success, and Leadership to translate business needs into scalable, data-driven solutions. The Senior BI Developer also mentors junior developers and analysts, authors the documentation and knowledge-transfer materials the team depends on, and continually evaluates emerging capabilities - including AI-assisted and natural-language analytics - to raise the speed and quality of insight delivery.

What You'll Do
  • Own the architecture, development, and maintenance of multiple production Power BI reporting platforms end to end - semantic models and datasets, dataflows, stored-procedure pipelines, and embedded, role-secured (RLS) customer-facing analytics.
  • Design and optimize the underlying data stack - Redshift warehousing, DMS/Zero-ETL consolidation, and Fivetran connectors - for accuracy, performance, and reliable scheduled refresh, including partition management via TMSL/XMLA.
  • Build financial, operational, and executive-facing reporting (payments, capital, revenue, retention, and leadership funnels) that turns large, complex datasets into actionable insight for internal stakeholders and enterprise customers.
  • Administer the Power BI platform: workspace and app inventory, Premium capacity and licensing, and access governance through self-service security groups.
  • Establish and enforce best practices for data governance, quality assurance, validation, and data security, including source control (Git) for BI artifacts and structured UAT-to-production deployment.
  • Lead incident response and root-cause analysis for reporting and pipeline failures, and drive reliability improvements with upstream data owners and vendor partners.
  • Partner with cross-functional teams - Finance, Product, Data Engineering, Customer Success, and Leadership - to translate business requirements into scalable data solutions, and lead reporting workstreams through platform migrations and handoffs.
  • Author and maintain technical documentation, runbooks, and knowledge-transfer materials; mentor and provide technical guidance to junior BI developers and analysts.
  • Evaluate and adopt emerging analytics capabilities, including AI-assisted and natural-language analytics, to accelerate reporting and insight delivery.
  • Serve as a subject-matter expert across the BI portfolio, setting standards and providing direction on data modeling, reporting design, and analytics strategy.
What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's or master's degree, or equivalent professional experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in business intelligence, analytics, and data engineering, including direct ownership of production reporting platforms.
  • Advanced Power BI expertise: semantic models and datasets, dataflows, DAX, Power Query, row-level security, and embedded/paginated reporting.
  • Strong data engineering foundation: SQL, data warehousing (Redshift or similar), ETL/ELT pipelines, and cloud data platforms (AWS).
  • Experience administering a BI platform at scale - capacity and licensing, workspace and access governance, and refresh/pipeline monitoring.
  • Proven ability to diagnose and resolve complex data, refresh, and performance issues across the full stack.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a track record of partnering with senior stakeholders and presenting to leadership and external customers.
  • Demonstrated leadership: mentoring team members, setting technical standards, and driving data initiatives and migrations to completion.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Certifications in Power BI / Microsoft Fabric, Power Apps, or AWS.
  • Hands-on experience with cloud data-integration tooling (Fivetran, AWS DMS, AWS Glue) and BI source control (Git).
  • Experience with AI-assisted analytics or MCP-based / natural-language reporting.
  • Experience with Sigma (Sigma Computing) or comparable cloud BI platforms, particularly in the context of BI platform migrations.
  • Proficiency in a programming language such as Python.
  • Experience working in Agile or Scrum environments.
  • Domain experience in payments, e-commerce, SaaS, or member management.
  • Knowledge of machine learning concepts for predictive analytics.
