Job description

We are seeking an experienced Power BI Developer with at least 5 years of experience designing, developing, and optimizing Power BI dashboards and semantic data models.
The ideal candidate will be proficient in SQL, DAX, performance tuning, and experienced in Microsoft Fabric, including Direct Lake mode, Medallion architecture, data mesh concepts, and semantic model implementation.
Hands-on experience with Microsoft Copilot in Power BI is highly desirable to assist in AI-powered dashboard development. The developer will work closely with business stakeholders, data engineers, and developers in an Agile environment to deliver high-quality, scalable, and governed data solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
Power BI & Semantic Model Development
  • Design, build, and maintain interactive, high-performing Power BI dashboards.
  • Implement semantic models in Microsoft Fabric to enable reusable datasets, governed calculations, and enterprise-level analytics.
  • Use DAX to define complex measures, KPIs, and business logic.
  • Leverage Microsoft Copilot to assist in report creation, analysis, and insight generation.
  • Ensure semantic models and datasets follow best practices for scalability, performance, and governance.

Data Analysis & KPI Validation
  • Validate KPIs and metrics against source systems using SQL and business rules.
  • Analyze datasets for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with business requirements.
  • Collaborate with business analysts and stakeholders to translate requirements into semantic models and visualizations.
  • Apply business rules, transformations, and KPI definitions to maintain traceability.

Microsoft Fabric & Direct Lake
  • Build and manage datasets using Direct Lake mode in Microsoft Fabric.
  • Understand Direct Lake limitations and performance considerations and optimize models accordingly.
  • Apply knowledge of Medallion architecture (Bronze, Silver, Gold layers) and data mesh concepts to navigate Fabric datasets efficiently.
  • Collaborate with data engineers to ensure semantic models integrate seamlessly with data pipelines and governance frameworks.

Performance Optimization & Troubleshooting
  • Diagnose and resolve Power BI performance issues, including DAX, model design, and dashboard responsiveness.
  • Optimize SQL queries used in underlying data sources.
  • Continuously review semantic models and dashboards for performance and usability improvements.

Collaboration & Agile Delivery
  • Partner with business stakeholders, data engineers, and BI developers to ensure alignment with requirements and governance standards.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand-ups, reviews, retrospectives).

Required Qualifications:
  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or related field.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years as a Power BI Developer or BI Engineer.
    • Advanced Power BI development and semantic model implementation in Microsoft Fabric.
    • Strong proficiency in SQL and DAX.
    • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Copilot in Power BI.
    • Experience with Direct Lake mode, Medallion architecture, and data mesh concepts.
    • Experience validating KPIs and metrics against source systems.
    • Proven ability to troubleshoot and optimize dashboards and semantic models.

Technical Skills:
  • Power BI - report development, DAX, semantic modeling, and performance tuning.
  • Microsoft Fabric - Direct Lake, semantic models, and integration with data pipelines.
  • Microsoft Copilot - AI-assisted report and dashboard development.
  • SQL - advanced querying, joins, aggregations, and data validation.
  • Understanding of Medallion architecture and data mesh principles.
  • Agile tools: Jira, Azure DevOps, Confluence.

Soft Skills:
  • Excellent communication; able to bridge technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Highly organized and capable of managing multiple priorities in Agile sprints.

Preferred (Nice-to-Have):
  • Experience with Python or Power Query (M).
  • Knowledge of row-level security (RLS) and data access governance.
  • Familiarity with data quality and lineage tools (e.g., Microsoft Purview).
  • Experience in integrating Power BI with Azure DevOps, SharePoint, or Teams.

Compensation $111,000 - $209,000
The compensation salary for this position will be determined during the interview process and will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to prior experience, relevant expertise, current business needs, and market factors.
