Job description

Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) is building the next generation of software systems that enable data center operations to scale with the speed, reliability, and efficiency required by modern cloud infrastructure.
We are looking for a **Principal Software Development Engineer (IC4)** to help design, build, and operate software platforms that support Cloud Hardware Support (CHS) as OCI continues to grow. This role focuses on cloud-native systems, operational tooling, workflow automation, analytics, and intelligent user experiences that help teams manage data center work more consistently and efficiently.
As an IC4 engineer, you will operate independently while helping guide the team's technical direction. You will build entire systems and services, drive design across complex features and subsystems, improve engineering and operational practices, and collaborate closely with partner teams across infrastructure, operations, and service engineering. This aligns with the IC4 expectation of independently building systems and services while improving engineering practices, operations, ownership, hiring, and mentoring across a director-level organization.
This role is well suited for an engineer who enjoys solving ambiguous operational problems with scalable software. You will work on platforms that unify task execution, workflow orchestration, inventory and asset interactions, guided procedures, operational analytics, and automation-first experiences for data center support teams. The broader CHS roadmap emphasizes reducing manual, fragmented processes; improving repair throughput and quality; building centralized analytics; and establishing a task-centric repair operator platform as a primary system of work.
Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, ownership of production systems, customer empathy for field and operations users, and the ability to design software that is secure, resilient, observable, and scalable across global environments.
Responsibilities
As a Principal Software Development Engineer, you will:
Design, develop, and operate scalable cloud-native services, APIs, and platforms that support OCI data center growth, repair operations, and infrastructure management.
Build software that simplifies complex operational workflows through automation, guided task execution, intelligent prioritization, and self-service tooling.
Lead the design of major features and subsystems across task management, inventory workflows, analytics, workflow orchestration, integrations, and operational dashboards.
Create reliable systems that integrate with multiple backend sources of truth while presenting users with a unified, consistent, and intuitive experience.
Develop platforms that improve technician productivity, reduce manual work, increase operational consistency, and support faster issue resolution.
Partner with product, operations, infrastructure, and service teams to translate complex data center workflows into scalable software capabilities.
Drive operational excellence through observability, alerting, automated validation, resilient architecture, and measurable service health.
Build analytics and telemetry capabilities that help identify workload trends, bottlenecks, quality issues, operational risks, and opportunities for automation.
Improve engineering quality by contributing to architecture reviews, design standards, testing practices, deployment safety, and production readiness.
Work independently on complex projects while seeking input when tradeoffs affect customers, business goals, system architecture, or cross-team dependencies, consistent with IC4 expectations.
Mentor engineers through design reviews, implementation guidance, operational best practices, and technical decision-making.
Champion secure, maintainable, and extensible software that can scale across global OCI data center environments.
