What does a junior audio editor do?

A Junior Audio Editor assists in editing and refining audio recordings for various media, such as podcasts, films, and advertisements. Their tasks often include removing unwanted noise, adjusting sound levels, syncing audio with video, and sometimes adding basic effects. They typically work under the supervision of senior audio editors or sound engineers and use specialized software like Adobe Audition or Pro Tools. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience and helps develop the technical skills necessary for advanced audio production positions.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a junior audio editor?

To thrive as a Junior Audio Editor, you need a solid understanding of audio editing principles, familiarity with sound design, and often a degree or coursework in audio production or a related field. Proficiency with digital audio workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Adobe Audition, or Logic Pro, as well as knowledge of audio file formats and plugins, is essential. Attention to detail, creativity, and strong communication skills help you efficiently collaborate with producers and meet project requirements. These skills are crucial for delivering high-quality audio content that meets technical standards and client expectations in a competitive industry.

What are some common challenges faced by junior audio editors during post-production, and how can they overcome them?

Junior Audio Editors often encounter challenges such as managing tight deadlines, handling multiple revisions, and ensuring consistent audio quality across different tracks. To overcome these, it's helpful to maintain organized project files, communicate proactively with producers and team members about expectations, and continually develop technical skills with audio editing software. Seeking feedback from senior editors and staying adaptable to new workflows can also make the transition into professional post-production smoother.

What is the difference between Junior Audio Editor vs Audio Engineer?

Audio Engineers have a broader role involving recording, mixing, and mastering, with more advanced technical skills. Both roles are essential in media production but serve different stages of the audio production process.

Job description

Centr is a globally recognized wellness platform founded by Chris Hemsworth in 2019. Through fitness, food, and mindfulness, we provide the tools for people to live a happier, healthier life.

Headquartered in Los Angeles, California, we are a passionate team of content creators, strategists, engineers, designers, marketers, and brand builders.

At Centr, our core values include respect, transparency, accountability, and collaboration. We take pride in who we are and what we do. We don’t just accept individuality; we encourage it and acknowledge the value diversity and inclusivity bring to our team.

About the role

We’re looking for a Senior Video Editor with a talent for storytelling and all things digital. Whether it’s a punchy 15‑second ad designed to stop the scroll, or a five‑minute emotionally driven mini‑documentary for YouTube, you know how to shape footage into something that moves people. This role sits in Centr’s in‑house creative team; you’re comfortable collaborating and sharing creative ideas on larger projects, or being self‑sufficient and owning a project from concept through to final delivery, including sound design, mixing, and colour grading. You bring both the technical depth and the creative instincts to make every cut count.

Portfolio Required

Applicants must submit a portfolio to be considered for this position. Please attach your portfolio (PDF format preferred) or include a direct link to your website or online portfolio in your application.

Responsibilities
  • Edit a broad range of video content across digital channels — from short‑form paid social ads (:06, :15, :30) to long‑form content including mini‑documentaries, brand films, and YouTube series.
  • Own projects end‑to‑end, from reviewing raw footage and shaping the narrative arc, through to picture lock, colouring, sound design, and final delivery.
  • Devise inventive creative approaches to digital advertising, finding new ways to hook audiences and communicate the Centr brand within tight time constraints.
  • Handle all aspects of sound design and audio mixing, ensuring every deliverable sounds as polished as it looks.
  • Perform colour grading and finishing to a broadcast‑quality standard. Help develop and maintain Centr’s visual style, and drive brand consistency through our video assets.
  • Create and integrate motion graphics and basic animation to elevate video content, working collaboratively with the design team or with contracted specialists on more complex executions.
  • Adapt and resize content for multiple platforms and placements, ensuring each version is optimised for its format and audience.
  • Collaborate with the creative director, producers, and marketing team to understand briefs deeply and deliver work that achieves objectives.
  • Help establish and maintain post‑production standards, templates, and workflows that keep the team efficient and output consistently high.
  • Stay across emerging formats, platform trends, and editing techniques to keep Centr’s video content fresh and competitive.
  • Maintain an organised and well‑structured asset and project library, ensuring files are archived, accessible, and backed up across the team.
  • Mentor and provide creative feedback to junior editors and contractors where required, helping elevate the quality of the wider team’s output.
  • Comfortable working independently and taking full ownership of a project, as well as operating as a strong creative collaborator within a broader team.
Experience
  • 5+ years of professional video editing experience, with a strong portfolio demonstrating a variety of work across digital channels including paid social, organic content, and long‑form video.
  • Expert‑level proficiency in Adobe Premiere Pro and the broader Adobe Creative Cloud suite (After Effects, Audition, Photoshop).
  • Proven ability as a storyteller; you can craft a narrative from raw footage that is emotionally engaging, whether the format is a 15‑second ad or a 5‑minute documentary.
  • Hands‑on experience with sound design, audio mixing, and colour grading.
  • Basic motion graphics capability (After Effects) and a good eye for design; you understand how type, colour, and visual rhythm contribute to overall polish and quality.
Personal Attributes
  • Collaborative and communicative
  • Drive & ‘can do’ attitude
  • Accountability
  • Ambitious and goal‑oriented
  • Honesty and integrity
  • Develops effective working relationships
  • Willingness to take on board the Centr Core Values
Why Join Centr?
  • Competitive salary package, commensurate with your skills and experience.
  • Flexible and balanced hybrid working environment (mix of office and work from home days).
  • Opportunity to work with modern technology and products.
  • Smart, motivated and collaborative coworkers who are here to support your growth.
  • Work with a globally recognized health and fitness brand.
