Job Description

We are looking for highly skilled Senior Associate L2 (Senior Java Developer) to join a strategic client engagement in Calgary. We are looking for a hands-on senior engineer who combines strong technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management and client-facing skills.

This role requires an individual who can work directly with business and technology stakeholders, drive technical discussions, coordinate across onshore and offshore teams, and lead the design and development of enterprise-grade applications. The ideal candidate is passionate about building scalable, event-driven, cloud-ready solutions while serving as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams.

Qualifications

Client & Stakeholder Management

  • Build and maintain strong client relationships and act as a trusted technology partner.
  • Serve as a liaison between business stakeholders, architects, product owners, and engineering teams.
  • Facilitate requirement discovery, clarification, solution workshops, and technical discussions.
  • Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions and API contracts.
  • Communicate technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Leverage AI-assisted engineering tools and practices to improve development productivity, accelerate delivery, enhance code quality, and support modernization initiatives.

Technical Leadership

  • Lead technical design discussions, architecture reviews, and solutioning activities.
  • Contribute to high-level and detailed solution design for enterprise applications.
  • Drive technical decision-making while balancing scalability, performance, security, and maintainability considerations.
  • Mentor and guide junior developers and foster engineering best practices.

Application Development

  • Design, develop, and implement scalable Java-based applications using modern microservices architecture.
  • Develop and consume RESTful APIs and event-driven services.
  • Build resilient, maintainable, and high-performing distributed systems.
  • Collaborate closely with architects and cross-functional teams to deliver robust enterprise solutions.

Delivery & Engineering Excellence

  • Coordinate seamlessly across onshore and offshore development teams.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies, technical grooming, estimation, and sprint planning.
  • Drive quality through code reviews, automated testing, CI/CD practices, and continuous improvement.
  • Support production deployments, troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and performance optimization

Core Java & Backend Technologies

  • 8+ years of software development experience.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in:
    • Java (Java 11+ preferred)
    • Spring Boot
    • Microservices Architecture
    • REST API design and development
    • Object-Oriented Design and Design Patterns

Database Technologies

  • Strong experience with:
    • Oracle Database
    • SQL query development and optimization

Messaging & Event-Driven Systems

  • Strong understanding of Event-Driven Architecture.
  • Experience with one or more messaging technologies:
    • Tibco (preferred)
    • Kafka

Containerization & Platform Engineering

  • Hands-on experience with:

Cloud & Infrastructure

  • Experience with cloud-native application development.

  • Experience working in on-premise and hybrid deployment environments.
 

AI-Assisted Engineering & Development

Required

  • Experience leveraging AI-powered software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Microsoft Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, or similar tools to improve developer productivity and software quality.
  • Ability to effectively use AI-assisted development techniques for:
    • Code generation and refactoring
    • Unit test creation
    • Documentation generation
    • API and integration analysis
    • Troubleshooting and root cause analysis
    • Development acceleration while maintaining engineering quality standards
  • Strong understanding of AI-assisted development best practices, including validation, code review, security, and governance.

Additional Information

Pay Range: $130,000 - $160,000
