Job description

Signals & Defense Engineer, Junior

The Opportunity:

We are seeking a Junior Signals and Defense Engineer to join our team. This role is designed for candidates who are passionate about defending organizations against cyber threats and interested in building the next generation of security operations capabilities. You will work alongside experienced security practitioners to develop, implement, and improve threat detection, incident response, security automation, and AI-driven capabilities within a modern Security Operations Center (SOC) or Cyber Fusion Center. This position provides hands-on experience across multiple cybersecurity disciplines, including Detection Engineering, Security Information and Event Management (SIEM), Security Orchestration, Automation and Response (SOAR), threat detection, and the application of Artificial Intelligence to cybersecurity operations. Due to the nature of work performed within this facility, U.S. citizenship is required.

How You'll Contribute:

  • Analyze people, processes, technologies, and integration with other teams to improve detection and response capabilities

  • Assist in designing, developing, and tuning security detections for enterprise environments.

  • Support the development of threat detection use cases using SIEM and log analytics platforms.

  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of security automation workflows using SOAR technologies.

  • Research emerging cyber threats, attacker techniques, and defensive strategies using frameworks such as MITRE ATT&CK.

  • Develop scripts and automation to improve SOC efficiency and reduce manual processes.

  • Participate in testing, validation, and continuous improvement of detection content.

  • Assist with integrating security telemetry from cloud, endpoint, identity, and network security technologies.

  • Explore and prototype AI and automation capabilities that enhance threat detection, investigation, and analyst workflows.

  • Document engineering processes, detection logic, and technical solutions.

You Have:

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, including networking fundamentals, such as TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, and routing, operating systems, such as Windows and Linux, identity and authentication concepts, and common cyber-attack techniques and defensive controls

  • Knowledge of programming or scripting using one or more languages such as Python, PowerShell, JavaScript, C#, or Java

  • Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and software development fundamentals

  • Ability to demonstrate curiosity and a passion for cybersecurity

  • HS diploma or GED

Nice If You Have:

  • Experience with SIEM platforms, such as Microsoft Sentinel, Splunk, Elastic, QRadar, or Chronicle

  • Experience with SOAR platforms or workflow automation

  • Experience with Cloud, such as Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud

Salary at Booz Allen is determined by various factors, including but not limited to location, the individual's particular combination of education, knowledge, skills, competencies, and experience, as well as contract-specific affordability and organizational requirements. The projected compensation range for this position is $55,200.00 to $126,000.00 (annualized USD). The estimate displayed represents the typical salary range for this position and is just one component of Booz Allen's total compensation package for employees.
