As a Staff Android Engineer I, you will play an instrumental role in shaping and optimizing our platform to deliver an unparalleled user experience. Working hand in hand with our product and design teams, you will lead the development and bespoke customization of the Mistplay app for the Android platform. Your projects will be engaging and diverse, including tasks such as enhancing the discovery of exceptional games for mobile gamers and focusing on intuitive UI design principles. You will be responsible for diagnosing problems by analyzing data, processes, and code to troubleshoot Android development issues and recognize areas for improvement, applying your deep understanding of secure coding practices to maintain infrastructure functionality.

What you’ll do at Mistplay:
  • Partner with diverse, multicultural teams to explore and implement cutting‑edge features for the Mistplay app, utilizing state‑of‑the‑art technologies and methodologies.
  • Lead the development of complex features aimed at improving user experience and boosting user engagement, such as sophisticated analytics and gamification elements, including quests and the in‑app economy.
  • Responsible for leading cross‑functional and cross‑department communication and collaboration. Your role will involve coordinating and aligning Android development standards and overall efforts across the organization.
  • You will also be responsible for maintaining and improving system‑wide guidelines for Android development.
  • Architect and develop top‑tier software for our Android application, primarily using Kotlin and Modern Android Development tools.
  • Harness your extensive expertise to understand, refactor, and modernize legacy code in a scalable and efficient manner, following clean architecture and SOLID principles — ensuring the app is adaptable for changing business and user needs.
  • Apply UI design principles to create intuitive user interfaces, leveraging Jetpack Compose.
  • Foster the development of junior Android developers by mentoring and coaching them, sharing your wealth of knowledge and experience to help them develop and fine‑tune their skills.
What you’ll bring to Mistplay:
  • Located in Toronto, ON, Canada and open to a 2 days/week hybrid model.
  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • Over 10 years of experience as an Android Developer/Engineer, Architect or a comparable role.
  • Significant experience and expertise with Coroutines, and Jetpack compose.
  • Deep familiarity with Kotlin and AndroidX libraries.
  • Profound understanding of scalable applications, modularization, app architecture, and the ability to refactor legacy code efficiently.
  • Demonstrable skills in Unit/Instrumented testing.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication competencies.
  • The ability to spearhead/drive development, work independently, or collaborate productively within a team.
Nice to have:
  • Prior experience in managing application releases and Google Play publishing.
  • Familiarity with Server-Driven UI solutions.
  • An in‑depth understanding of Git, CI/CD, git flows.
  • Record of sharing knowledge with the open‑source community or Android community.
