Job description

Purpose Brands, the parent company of Orangetheory, Anytime Fitness, Waxing the City, and The Bar Method, is seeking a Mobile Engineer IV - Android to join its team. The Mobile Engineer IV - Android position is a highly technical software engineering role handling the most mission-critical and technically-complicated efforts across the many Android applications Purpose Brands develops internally, including the Anytime Fitness App and the Orangetheory App. Beyond writing expert-level Kotlin code to maintain and enhance Android apps, the position is a leadership role as the steward of the team's Kotlin GitHub repositories as well as providing technical guidance to the wider Android team.
Purpose/Impact: (Duties & Essential Functions)
  • Technical Expertise - Most difficult+critical Android/Kotlin programming tasks; Investigation of new Android/Google technologies; Driving the company's mobile tech forward; Subject matter expert on Android, Play Store, and Google policies/guidelines;
  • Technical Leadership - Reviewing pull requests; Enforcing team's Android/Kotlin standards and technical direction; Technical coaching of other Android engineers;
  • Tactical Leadership - GitHub repository management; Adding technical detail to requirements/etc. documentation; Support ticket triage; Providing suggestions at the project level around sequencing, scope, and trade-offs; Release candidate coordination;
  • AI Leadership - Leveraging AI technologies as part of Android development and testing, leading by example; Mentoring junior team members on AI usage; Exploring new opportunities and uses for AI technologies; Advising on AI strategy;

REQUIRED STRENGTHS AND BACKGROUND
  • Professional enterprise experience building Android apps in Kotlin, delivered to the Play Store
  • Experience writing multi-threaded, asynchronous code
  • Experience in profiling applications and identifying ways to optimize app performance
  • Experience in writing appropriate unit tests and Android instrumentation tests
  • Experience with version control, Git, GitHub
  • Experience with the utilization of caching techniques to enhance performance
  • Experience with AI coding techniques and tools like Cursor, Claude Code, Codex, etc.
  • Understanding of modern architecture patterns like Model-View-ViewModel (MVVM)
  • Familiarity with microservices architecture, continuous integration, continuous delivery, and REST APIs
  • Familiarity with compliance concerns like accessibility, internationalization, privacy, and security
  • Ability to perform code reviews and mentor junior team members on coding standards
  • Ability to monitor the logs, metrics, and analytics to ensure the success of the apps and services
