Job description

Description

STATEMENT OF PURPOSE

The Surgery Attendant is responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and properly prepared environment throughout The Surgery Center. This role performs terminal cleaning of The Surgery Center at the end of each day and supports daily operations by ensuring surgical suites are thoroughly cleaned, stocked, and organized for procedures. The Surgery Attendant provides essential non-clinical support to the surgical team but does not perform the duties of a Surgical Technologist or Sterile Processing 

Technician.


Full-time, benefitted position scheduled for 72 hours per two-week pay period. Days of work are Monday through Friday from 11:00am to 7:30pm, with no nights, weekends or holidays.  


JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Terminally clean the OR, Surgery Center and Sterile Processing at the end of each day and after contaminated surgeries in accordance with established infection control and safety standards.
  • Assist with quick and efficient turnover of the operating rooms between surgical cases. 
  • Clean all surfaces, including floors and equipment between cases.
  • Clean and return equipment to storerooms after case completion.
  • Remove unnecessary supplies from OR suites after case completion.
  • Assist in the gathering of essential equipment and supplies for subsequent cases. 
  • Check for basic functionality of equipment and report malfunctions. 
  • Dispose of trash, linen and biohazard waste throughout the day.
  • Restock linens, supplies, and other necessary items in the surgical area.
  • Assist the OR team with non-clinical tasks to support efficient workflow.
  • Maintain an organized and sanitary work environment in the surgical suites.
  • Report any safety concerns to the department leads. 
  • Follow all hospital policies, safety guidelines, and infection prevention procedures.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS FOR THIS POSITION

  1. Preparation & Training - High school diploma or equivalent preferred. On the job training
  2. Work Experience - Some experience preferred but not required.
  3. Attendance - Punctual and regular attendance is an essential responsibility of each employee at JRMC. Employees are expected to report to work as scheduled, on time and prepared to start working. Employees are also expected to remain at work for their entire work schedule.
  4. Analytical Ability - Ability to follow cleaning, sanitation, and safety procedures in a healthcare setting. Must have organizational skills. Must be able to prioritize and coordinate multiple tasks.
  5. Independent Judgement - Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. Must be able to problem solve and have critical thinking skills. 
  6. Contact with Others - Ability to work effectively as part of a healthcare team. Good communication and interpersonal skills.
  7. Supervising the Work - of Others No direct supervision of others. 
  8. Responsibility for Welfare of Others - High frequency with which work performed may result in pain, minor injuries and/or stress for others. Must be accurate in performance of responsibilities.
  9. Mental/Visual Effort - Must be able to speak and write the English language in an understandable manner. Must demonstrate physical and emotional ability to meet agreed upon work schedule and performance standards required by the position. Required duties are such that concentrated attention must be applied on demand consistent with manual skill requirements in situations that may at times be stressful. Visual acuity necessary for reading charts and working with medical devices.
  10. Working Conditions - Work is performed in a hospital or surgical center operating room environment. Requires standing, walking, bending, and lifting supplies or equipment. Will involve moving equipment as needed.
  11. Physical & Sensory Effort - Frequent standing or walking. Lifts, positions, and pushes equipment and supplies. Frequent reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. Needs finger dexterity when handling specialized equipment/instruments. Requires standing for extended periods of time without relief.
  12. Background - A comprehensive background check will be conducted as a condition of employment for this role. 
  13. Drug Screen - A urine drug screening is required for all positions and must be completed within 30 days of the date of hire.
  14. Promotion - No formal line of promotion.
  15. Physical Requirement - These are physical requirements of the position that may be performed as part of daily duties.
