Job description

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs specimen collection procedures, including venipuncture or skin puncture. Follows laboratory protocols for specimen handling, containers, transport, and patient preparation. Verifies information regarding test requested and patient identification according to laboratory protocol.

Assists with routine clerical work including the following: charging, crediting, and canceling of test procedures via computer system in a timely manner. Assists with registration and order entry for all patient phlebotomy specimens received in the laboratory, following laboratory protocol.

Processes requisitions for disposition of reports to lab files, physician offices, home health Agencies, and other appropriate locations. Provides appropriate services to meet the needs of the department’s customer as requested including, but not limited to, the provision of accurate and timely information.

Receives information for the laboratory department by answering phones and responding to front desk needs. Relays calls to various laboratory sections and/or management. Responsive to all requests from department’s customers.

Works with the Johnson Memorial Health (JMH) computer system(s), printers, scanners, etc. for orders/requisitions from multiple referral sources. Coordinates orders/requisitions according to the time requested and location, following all laboratory procedures.

Provides guidance for customers as it relates to laboratory procedures and operations. Trouble shoots and provides timely and effective customer service; notifies supervisor of customer service issues.

Promotes positive relations with co-workers by: using positive communication methods, and striving to improve the image of JMH and demonstrating a commitment to customer service and continuous quality improvement.

Provides technical guidance for employees and customers as it relates to laboratory procedures and operations.

Performs other related duties as assigned.

Clearly communicates and continuously supports the Mission and Values of Johnson Memorial Health.

Conducts all activities in compliance with applicable laws, regulations, standards, and Johnson Memorial Health policies and procedures including Blood and Body Substance Precautions.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND TRAINING:

High School Diploma or equivalent required; course work in Phlebotomy preferred; minimum of one year of experience preferred. Experience with office equipment and medical terminology preferred.

SCHEDULE:


Monday - Friday, 4:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.
80 hours per bi-weekly pay period.
