Summary:

FET Variperm is class leading in service and supply, specializing in sand control engineering, completion and work-over tools and cased hole fishing services. Our very name derives from the concept of Variable Permeability – the ability to change permeability to control results. And that’s what we do: our customized sand control solutions allow us to respond quickly to the ever-changing variability of our customers’ vertical and horizontal well operations.

Responsible for the welding and fabrication of parts and products to specifications identified in job order documentation. This position may involve various shifts and overtime hours depending on the scope of work and plant activity. This role does not require a registered Welding Apprentice however, does require basic to intermediate skills in Welding. Active participation in FET's Health Safety & Environment program is required as well as, adherence to all company policies and procedures. Special projects and other duties as assigned.

Job Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform production welding in accordance with Variperm Weld Procedure Specifications (WPS), including post weld heat treatment.
  • Reading and understanding blueprints and drawings.
  • Take and/or read measurements to plan layout.
  • Determine the appropriate welding equipment or method based on requirements.
  • Set up components for welding according to specifications.
  • Operate angle grinders to prepare the parts that must be welded.
  • Align components using calipers, rulers etc. and clamp pieces.
  • Directing and providing instructions to labourers.
  • Ensuring proper use and care of equipment.
  • Ensuring all welding equipment is in proper working order and maintained.
  • Maintain and adhere to housekeeping practices to ensure work areas are clean and safe.
  • Assist in other plant operations as needed.
  • Adhere to all company policies and procedures including HSE and Quality.
  • Active participation in FET’s Health, Safety and Environment program including training and safety meetings as required.
  • Perform quality control inspections as necessary.
  • The ability to lift to 45lbs independently.
  • Other duties as required.

Skills/Knowledge

  • Capable of working in a team environment as well as independently.
  • Mechanically inclined and comfortable in a Manufacturing environment.
  • Basic welding and fabrication skills.
  • Experience in using electrical or manual tools.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings
  • Knowledge of oilfield tubulars and threads.
  • Knowledge of relative safety standards and willingness to use protective clothing (face-shield, gloves etc.).
  • Forklift and overhead crane training or experience considered an asset.
  • Good verbal and written English skills.
  • Ability to read and understand manufacturing drawing, job order documentation, and weld procedure specifications.
  • Able to follow and understand both oral and written instructions in English.
  • Grade 12 basic math skills.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Dedicated to continuous improvement.

Education

  • Grade 12 or GED or equivalent education.

Experience

  • Prior manufacturing experience preferred.
  • 1+ years of welding experience required.
