Job Summary
The Outreach Retirement Counselor provides retirement education, benefits guidance, and personalized support to TRS members, employers, and stakeholder groups. This position delivers group presentations, conducts individualized counseling sessions, and participates in outreach events to help members understand TRS benefits, plan provisions, service credit rules, and retirement readiness milestones. The ideal candidate is an effective communicator who can translate complex benefit information into clear, accessible guidance.
Minimum Qualifications & Education
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university
  • Two years of experience in customer service, financial services, benefits administration, or a related field
  • Strong public speaking, communication, and customer-service skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with public pension plans, retirement counseling, or employee benefits
  • Experience conducting presentations, seminars, or training sessions
  • Working knowledge of retirement system laws, policies, and benefit calculations

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct group retirement presentations statewide for members, employers, and agency partners
  • Provide one-on-one counseling sessions (in person, phone, or virtual)
  • Explain TRS retirement benefits, service credit rules, plan options, and required documentation
  • Assist members with understanding retirement eligibility, benefit estimates, and next steps
  • Respond to questions regarding TRS policies, procedures, and retirement laws
  • Support benefit fairs, outreach events, employer visits, and workshops
  • Build effective working relationships with employers and internal TRS divisions
  • Maintain accurate records of counseling activities and outreach efforts
  • Assist members in using online tools, forms, and resources
  • Travel throughout Georgia as required
  • Perform other duties as assigned
