Position Summary

The Student Event Lead serves as a key member of the gameday and event operations team for the Athletics Department at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. This leadership-focused student position is responsible for assisting with the planning, coordination, and execution of athletic events while providing oversight and support to event staff. Student Event Leads help ensure that home contests and special events are conducted professionally, safely, and in accordance with institutional, conference, and NCAA standards.

This position offers students valuable hands-on experience in event management, leadership, communication, customer service, and athletic administration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Event Operations

  • Assist in the preparation, setup, and breakdown of athletic competitions and special events.
  • Ensure facilities are event-ready, including signage placement, equipment setup, seating arrangements, and venue appearance.
  • Monitor event spaces throughout contests to maintain safety, cleanliness, and operational efficiency.
  • Support game-day functions including ticketing, crowd management, hospitality, and fan engagement activities.
  • Support concession stands operations by preparing and selling food and beverages, handling cash and electronic transactions, maintaining inventory levels, and ensuring compliance with food safety and customer service standards.
  • Help oversee student staff assigned to ticketing and concessions areas to ensure efficient operations and positive guest experience.

Leadership and Staff Coordination

  • Serve as a lead point of contact for student event staff during assigned events.
  • Assist with training and mentoring new student workers.
  • Help assign responsibilities and ensure event staff complete assigned duties.
  • Communicate event expectations and operational updates to student staff members.
  • Escalate facility, safety, or operational concerns to professional staff as needed.

Customer Service and Event Experience

  • Provide exceptional customer service to student-athletes, coaches, officials, spectators, alumni, and campus visitors.
  • Assist with directing guests, answering questions, and resolving minor event-related concerns.
  • Support efforts to create a positive and welcoming environment at all UW-Stevens Point athletic events.

Administrative Support

  • Assist Athletics staff with event preparation, inventory management, and operational planning.
  • Maintain accurate records related to event staffing, equipment, and facility use when requested.
  • Attend required staff meetings and training sessions.

Required Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled as a student at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to demonstrate leadership, professionalism, and accountability.
  • Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse groups of students, staff, and community members.
