As a Brazilian jiu-jitsu instructor, your job is to teach a class of students the various techniques of the martial arts. As part of this, you may instruct each student individually to help them overcome personal hurdles, explain the proper use of jiu-jitsu, or supervise matches as an impartial referee. Jiu-jitsu instructors broadly fall into two categories. Some instructors focus on this martial arts style as a martial art, with an emphasis on self-defense and occasionally competitive-level sparring. Other instructors focus on jiu-jitsu as exercise. This may or may not involve having students spar with each other, but it does tend to include repeating the forms and movements of jiu-jitsu.
