Job description

The Swim Instructor will contribute to the vision, mission and values of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation by instructing swim lessons for the overall health & well-being of JCC members.
  1. Instruct a swim lesson, following the class description. Classes will include instruction in the four competitive swim strokes, as well as safety, diving, and other swim related topics. Swim classes are inclusive to classes listed in the program guide, and may include group lessons or private lessons.
  2. Instructor should be comfortable teaching a variety of ages and abilities, from infant to older adult, and beginner to expert.
  3. Be prompt and arrive at least 10 minutes before class. Begin and end class on time.
  4. Clock in and out within seven minutes of the hour.
  5. Accurately record class participation numbers.
  6. Ensure that any used equipment is picked up, cleaned properly, and put away.
  7. Identify and demonstrate behaviors that are critical to the success of the department.
  8. Be an advocate for the JCC at ALL times.
  9. Participate in all in-service staff training sessions.
  10. Display at all times a professional and enthusiastic attitude.
  11. Complete all additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Requirements
The ideal candidate has one or more years teaching experience. Is certified by American Red Cross, YMCA , or similar certifications, or is able to achieve these certifications. Swim instructors have current CPR/First-Aid certifications on file. Some lessons may need additional training or certification to teach.
