Job description

Located in the nationโ€™s capital, The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is the chief legal office of the District of Columbia. OAG enforces the laws of the District, defends, and provides legal advice to the Districtโ€™s government agencies and protects the interests of the Districtโ€™s residents. The Immediate Office of the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia is seeking to fill the position of Chief of Staff.

The Immediate Office ensures that OAG provides high quality legal services to the District government, promotes the interests of the public, and effectively communicates and engages with District residents.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Serves as a senior advisor to the Attorney General and manages the Immediate Office. Major duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Ensuring that the Attorney General is scheduled, staffed and prepared for all internal and external meetings, presentations, testimonies, and other events, to include preparation and timely circulation of a daily briefing binder.

Ensuring that the Immediate Office is operating in manner that will effectively achieve OAGโ€™s mission and the Attorney Generalโ€™s priorities. This includes ensuring that the Immediate Office runs smoothly and efficiently, that meetings are appropriately scheduled, staffed, prepared for and attended, that meetings take place and start and end on time, that action items and decisions are carried out in a timely manner, and that OAG leadership communicate clearly and regularly with one another and, as needed, with external parties.

Responsible for updating and working collaboratively with the Attorney General, the Chief Deputy, the First Deputy, all Senior Counsel and the Chief Operating Officer on matters of importance, including Immediate Office communications, employee engagement, and external affairs.

Maintaining relationships and interacting with high-level personnel in other District agencies, community groups, community leaders, and other District residents to advance OAGโ€™s mission and the Attorney Generalโ€™s priorities.

Working closely with the Director of Communications and the Director of Community Engagement to ensure that the Communications and Community Engagement teams work together to engage the public in furtherance of OAGโ€™s mission and the Attorney Generalโ€™s priorities. and.

Providing executive leadership, as appropriate, includingdeveloping and reviewing work plans and initiatives with clearly delineated responsibilities, reporting requirements and timeframes.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION

Specialized experience is defined as Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and this is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, at least one (1) year of specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Juris Doctor Degree (JD) preferred.

The work is performed primarily in the office setting, travelling to meetings with the Attorney General and meet with community members, contractors, providers, grantees and customers in other settings outside the agency may also be necessary.

Pay Plan, Series and Grade: MSS-0301-16 Number of Vacancies: One (1) Promotion Potential: None Collective Bargaining Unit: This position is not in a collective bargaining unit. Salary Range: $145,000 - $175,000. The maximum salary for this position is negotiable up to $175,000 depending on qualifications and availability of funds. Duration of Appointment: Management Supervisory Service (MSS) (At-will) MSS At-Will Statement: Positions in the Management Supervisory Service (MSS) serve at the pleasure of appointing authority and may be terminated at any time with or without cause. Remote Work Status: In-person reporting with limited telework and flexible work schedules available upon eligibility. RESIDENCY PREFERENCE

Applicants claiming "Residency Preferenceโ€ will be required to maintain residency in the District of Columbia for a minimum of (7) years. Failure to do so may result in forfeiture of employment.
