What are JD/PhD programs?

JD/PhD programs are dual-degree academic tracks that combine a Juris Doctor (JD) degree in law with a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) degree in a related field, such as political science, sociology, or economics. These integrated programs are designed for students interested in careers that intersect law and academia, research, or policy analysis. Completing both degrees typically takes six to eight years, and students gain expertise in both legal theory and scholarly research. Graduates often pursue roles in academia, government, think tanks, or legal practice with a strong research component.

How does a JD PhD professional balance interdisciplinary responsibilities in their daily work?

Professionals with a JD/PhD dual degree often navigate roles that require both advanced legal knowledge and research expertise, such as in academia, policy development, or specialized legal consulting. Balancing these interdisciplinary responsibilities usually involves collaborating with both legal and academic teams, managing complex projects that require rigorous analysis, and staying current with developments in both fields. It's common to split time between research, teaching or policy work, and legal analysis, which can be challenging but also offers variety and intellectual stimulation. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are key to successfully integrating these diverse responsibilities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a JD PhD professional?

To thrive as a JD/PhD professional, you need advanced expertise in both law and a specific academic discipline, typically supported by a Juris Doctor (JD) and a doctoral (PhD) degree. Familiarity with legal research databases like Westlaw or LexisNexis and academic research tools such as JSTOR or SPSS is often required. Exceptional analytical thinking, interdisciplinary communication, and problem-solving skills help set top candidates apart in this unique field. These combined skills enable professionals to bridge law and scholarship, contributing innovative solutions and advancing policy or academic research.

However, it involves significant time and financial investment, and job prospects depend on the field and individual goals. It is important to consider career pathways and the demand for such combined qualifications before pursuing this degree.

What kind of job can I get with a JD PhD in criminal justice?

These positions often require strong research, analytical, and legal skills, and may involve teaching, policy development, or consulting in criminal justice systems.

Position Summary

The Sr. Sales Manager, Mining is the primary commercial driver for mtu power systems in the North American Mining market, responsible for managing sales opportunities from concept to contract across a defined territory and distribution partner network. This role owns the full sales cycle, from identifying and developing new business opportunities and securing service contracts, to building C‑suite customer relationships and serving as the strategic point of contact for distribution partners. With direct influence over revenue growth, market share, and long‑term customer partnerships in one of Power Systems' key industrial segments, this is a high‑autonomy, high‑impact role for an experienced commercial leader.

What you will be doing
  • Identify, develop, and close new business opportunities — work with distribution partners across North America to generate and advance sales opportunities for mtu power systems, securing contracts that drive profitable revenue growth in the Mining segment.
  • Build and own senior customer relationships — engage key customers at the highest management levels, negotiate and secure sales and service contracts (including VCA and EC agreements), and collaborate with the Service and Service Sales teams to deliver a total sales and service solution.
  • Manage accounts from a full commercial perspective — serve as the primary point of contact for distribution partners, address customer concerns promptly, provide guidance on policy decisions, and act as project manager when required to ensure smooth execution from concept through delivery.
  • Monitor the market and drive accurate forecasting — track industry trends, competitor activity, business conditions, and account status, reporting insights to leadership to support strategic planning and pipeline accuracy.
  • Willingness to travel domestically and internationally (up to 50%).
Basic Requirements:
  • Associate’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field with 7+ years of experience in technical sales or service management of industrial equipment, OR Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field with 5+ years of experience in technical sales or service management of industrial equipment, OR Master’s degree in Engineering, Business, or a related field with 3+ years of experience in technical sales or service management of industrial equipment, OR JD/PhD in Engineering, Business, or a related field, OR 9+ years of experience in technical sales or service management of complex industrial power systems in lieu of a degree.
  • In order to be eligible for consideration, you must be a U.S. Citizen or U.S. Permanent Resident. Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S without sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
Preferred Requirements:
  • Strong technical knowledge and proven success in value selling complex power systems, including diesel engines, to industrial customers.
  • Strong familiarity with mining equipment, operations, and the North American Mining market.
  • Experience with CRM platforms (Salesforce, SAP CRM, Microsoft Dynamics, or similar) and MS Office Suite, with a track record of maintaining accurate pipeline data, account records, and sales forecasting in a structured commercial environment.
  • Proven ability to manage complex, multi‑stakeholder sales opportunities from concept through contract (including project management involvement) in a distribution partner or channel sales model within the Mining, Oil & Gas, or heavy industrial sector.
  • Knowledge of mtu and/or Rolls‑Royce Power Systems products, service contracts (VCA, EC), policies, and distribution network or equivalent deep familiarity with a comparable diesel engine or industrial power systems brand.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate independently in a remote or field‑based environment, make sound commercial decisions with minimal supervision, and communicate complex technical and commercial proposals clearly to senior customer and partner stakeholders.
