Position Overview
This position helps promote health, wellness, and social connection within the community by providing safe, engaging, and inclusive fitness opportunities for active adults and seniors. Through encouraging instruction, positive interactions, and adaptable exercise programming, this role supports participants in maintaining active lifestyles and improving overall well-being. The work performed in this position contributes to a welcoming recreation environment that encourages lifelong health, participation, and community engagement.
Position Functions
Conduct aquatics and/or land exercise classes to active adult and senior participants. Promote health, well-being, safe and long-term participation by maintaining necessary certifications and providing fun and engaging exercise routines that are adaptable based on ability.
  • Conduct aquatic and/or land exercise classes as scheduled by the City.
  • Create routines for assigned classes and update regularly to incorporate current health and wellness, seasonal topic or theme being promoted by the City.
  • Provide ideas and suggestions for class offerings.
  • Monitor class participants and encourage safety and fun for the best experience.
  • Maintain and provide activity records.
  • Maintain the necessary certifications to conduct aquatic and/or land exercise classes.
  • Promote and communicate information of Recreation activities and events.
  • Encourage participation in Recreation activities and events.
  • Communicate progress, problems, and program needs to supervisor.
  • Maintain a professional image to the public at all times.
  • Communicate effectively and demonstrate a professional demeanor to City staff and the public at all times.

Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience instructing various aquatic and/or land exercise classes to adults and seniors of various ages and abilities.
  • Must be able to work various hours to include evenings and weekends.
  • Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.

PREFERABLE QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Valid American Red Cross CPR/AED Certification. Must obtain within three (3) months of employment.
  • Valid American Red Cross First Aid Certification. Must obtain within three (3) months of employment.
  • Valid Aquatic Exercise Association/Arthritis Foundation Program Leader certification for aquatic and land exercise.
  • Valid nationally-recognized Group Fitness Instructor certification to instruct classes as Aqua Zumba, Zumba Gold, yoga, water aerobics, deep-water aerobics, Tai-Chi, and/or Jazzercise.

Applicants will be required to complete a Disclosure & Authorization Regarding Background Investigation, a Confidentiality Agreement and a criminal background screening.
Employees have access to onsite gym facilities through the City's Wellness Program.
