QUALIFICATIONS: This position requires knowledge of basic theory including the fundamentals of harmony and notation; effective methods and techniques of piano accompaniment; knowledge of fundamentals of proper musical sight-reading techniques and methods.
MUST POSSESS THE SKILL TO EFFECTIVELY PLAY A VARIETY OF MUSICAL FORMS ON THE PIANO including classical, popular, jazz and folk music; successfully sight read, transpose, and improvise music; understand and follow a variety of complex and technical oral and written instructions; establish and maintain routine records and files; may supervise and assist in transporting students when necessary; establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
One year of experience as a professional accompanist for soloist, choruses, dance groups or as a pianist with a recognized musical organization.
GRADUATION FROM AN ACCREDITED SCHOOL OF MUSIC WITH SPECIALIZATION IN PIANO MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR THE DESIRED EXPERIENCE.
SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE MUST POSSESS AND MAINTAIN A VALID CLASS "C" CALIFORNIA DRIVER'S LICENSE.
A CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECK WILL BE REQUIRED OF SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATE PRIOR TO EMPLOYMENT.
DUTIES OF POSITION: To provide piano or other specified instrumental accompaniment for music classes, choral groups, vocal ensembles and soloists, rehearsals, performances, and other school activities; improvising or playing from scores as necessary. Employees in this classification receive general to limited supervision from a certificated teacher(s) or school site administrator within a framework of standard policies and procedures. This job classification provides specialized skills as a pianist for a variety of school-related activities and requires specialized knowledge in the reading, interpretation, and arrangement of music.
STARTING SALARY: $2,361.45 (monthly)
NUMBER OF MONTHS: 9.4 (to begin as soon as possible)
NUMBER OF HOURS: 6 (daily working hours 8:35 a.m. to 3:19 p.m.)
