Job description

Overview
NXP's Intellectual Property (IP) team is seeking a highly motivated intern to develop an AI-powered Copilot agent that guides inventors through the structured process of creating high-quality invention disclosures. The project focuses on translating NXP's invention disclosure templates and best practices into a deterministic, step-by-step AI workflow that improves clarity, completeness, and patent readiness of submitted inventions. The candidate will work closely with the IP team and gain exposure to how ideas evolve into patents and business assets at NXP.
Why This Role Is Different
Most internships build features. This one builds infrastructure for innovation at scale.
At NXP, every invention starts as a disclosure-but the quality of that disclosure determines whether it becomes a high-value patent or is lost.
You will design and deploy an AI-driven Copilot agent that fundamentally improves how engineers articulate inventions, directly impacting patent quality, IP strategy, and business value.
This is not a toy project. Your work will:
  • Be used by real engineers and IP teams
  • Be evaluated at the level of patent committees
  • Be presented to senior leadership

Required Qualifications
  • Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
  • Strong understanding of AI/LLMs and agent-based workflows
  • Experience with:
    • Python or JavaScript
    • Microsoft 365 tools (Word, Excel, Teams)
  • Strong problem-solving and structured thinking skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication
  • Curiosity and desire to learn new skills

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with:
    • Microsoft Copilot Studio or conversational AI platforms
    • Prompt engineering and LLM evaluation
    • Workflow automation tools (e.g., Power Automate)
  • Interest in intellectual property, patents, or innovation processes
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

What You Will Learn
  • How invention disclosures are evaluated for patentability and business value
  • How structured documentation enables patent creation and IP strategy
  • How to design enterprise-grade AI agents with real business impact
  • Exposure to NXP's IP processes, including disclosure submission and review workflows
