Job description

Group Leader - Systems Development
Information Technology Department
Position Summary:
The Group Leader, IT Systems Development, leads a team of developers responsible for developing and maintaining a broad portfolio of software that runs SIA's business. This role is responsible for all aspects of software development in a dynamic, fast-paced environment, managing projects, contributing to technical direction, and driving continuous improvement.
Outline of Duties:
  • Lead all aspects of the full software development lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Receive project and change requests, ensuring key information is collected. Prioritize projects and tasks in coordination with other development groups, section management, and other stakeholders.
  • Plan and manage projects. Deliver projects on time, and within scope and budget.
  • Investigate and troubleshoot issues, assess impact, and identify root cause. Propose and implement solutions to prevent recurrent problems.
  • Respond to ad hoc requests for information quickly and accurately, with an eye to developing self-service solutions for recurring requests.
  • Analyze the upstream implications and downstream impacts of proposed changes and issues and ensure all impacted processes and objects are addressed.
  • Ensure the quality, security, and timeliness of group deliverables through thoughtful direction and judicious review.
  • Manage developer performance: plan training, mentor staff, and write performance reviews.
  • Report team and project status, document problems and resolutions.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of the "state of the art" in software development. Identify and act on opportunities to help SIA take advantage of improvements in development speed and quality, application capability and performance, and cybersecurity.
  • Guide continuous modernization/evergreening of supported applications and related infrastructure.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or equivalent
  • Three years software application development experience
    • Strong technical background in Java-based application development ecosystems.
  • Demonstrated understanding of:
    • SQL and relational databases
    • Modern software design patterns and architecture principles
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills
  • Strong problem-solving capability with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in dynamic environment
  • Ownership mindset with a focus on quality and continuous improvement

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience leading or mentoring technical teams
  • Ability to evaluate and guide technical decisions
  • Understanding of RESTful APIs, systems integrations, CI/CD pipelines, version control, cloud environments
  • Experience working in real-time operational environments with preference to experience in manufacturing systems.
  • Familiarity with data-driven decision making and analytics Familiarity with Agile or hybrid project methodologies
