Role Overview

The Java Software Engineer I is an entry-level software development position designed for individuals beginning their careers in software engineering. Under the guidance of senior engineers, this role is responsible for learning the development environment, understanding existing applications, and contributing to the design, development, testing, and maintenance of software solutions. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, passionate about technology, and motivated to build high-quality software that supports business objectives.

This position is an in-office position located in Omaha, NE. No hybrid or remote.  

Key Responsibilities

 • Develop, maintain, and enhance Java-based applications in accordance with business and technical requirements
 • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following established development standards and best practices
 • Create and execute unit tests to ensure software quality and functionality
 • Assist in debugging and troubleshooting software issues, identifying root causes, and implementing solutions
 • Participate in code reviews and incorporate feedback to improve technical skills and code quality
 • Collaborate with developers, business analysts, and stakeholders on software development projects and enhancements
 • Contribute to technical documentation, including application features, code changes, and internal processes
 • Utilize development and project management tools such as GitHub, Jira, and Confluence to support team workflows
 • Participate in Agile development activities, including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives
 • Continuously develop technical knowledge of Java, software development frameworks, and company technology platforms

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field
 • 0 to 3 years of professional software development experience, including internships, co-ops, academic projects, or personal projects
 • Familiarity with Java programming concepts, object-oriented design principles, and software development methodologies
 • Experience using version control systems such as GitHub
 • Ability to manage multiple assignments and priorities in a collaborative team environment
